A delivery wagon of one of the big breadbaking factories of Yorkville stopped in front of an uptown livery and boarding stable the other morning, morn-ing, and two 'men at onee unloaded barrels of bread and carried theoi into the stable, scys the New York Journal. Jour-nal. The bread looked good, nnd was good. There were nil sorts nnd Ebies ' of loaves in the barrels "homemade"," : "rye," "Vienna," "potato." ''graham" , nnd "cottag-e." , j The curiosity of a man who .-saw the bread being delivered to t.h3 stable was aroused, and he ventured to a1 j the proprietor of the stable what it ; meant. "There's nothing remarkable about it," said the proprietor, with a lausrh. "I simply buy it for horse feed. We , f;rind the? bread up and mix it with other feed, and it makes first-class food for horses. It is stale bread afid costs us 40 cents a barrel and there are 50 or CO loaves to the barrel: bo you see it comes pretty cheap. Some of the bread js only a day old, and is' good enough for any man to eat; but the bread factories canrot sell it. What you see here are returned leaves from the groceries. I'll bet there is many a soldier who would like to have had as good bread in the war." PHARAOHNIC MUMMIES Discovery of the Remain of .the Great Egyptian Magician of the Time of lltmeMi II. Prof. Groff, the Egyptologist, writes from Ghizeh to the 1'aris Messenger about Pharaohnic mummies at the Ghizeh Ghi-zeh museum, confirming the tradition that the scenes described in the first chapters of the Book of Exodus took place under the reign of Iiameses II. :.nd his son, Merenptah. The Pharoah's daughter of the Bible "was Princes Bent Anta, and the great magician of that time Hamus, another son of Ram-eses Ram-eses II. The mummy of the last bad been discovered, but it was thought that of Hamus was missing. Mr. Groff has identified one of the mummies as that of the prince and mag-ician Hamus aDd verified the writing on the shroud as "Ih-Ha-mus." "After having opened the case in which the mummy is kept," he says, "and carefully removing the outer cloth covering there appeared written on-the shroud, just over the breast of the mummy: Uis majesty commanded command-ed in the seventh year, third month of the season of planting, sixth day, to be put in order the mummy of Prince Hamus.' This note proves that the object ob-ject of my research was correct; that the name is not Rahamus, as heretofore hereto-fore supposed; but Hamus, fhat of the great magician with whom I had already al-ready identified my mummy." There still lacks the mummy of Princess Prin-cess Bent Anta, Pharooh's daughter, the foster-mother of Moses. Certain indications on her sarcophagus might lead one to suppose that the mummy has been destroyed, but it is probably in some tomb in the valley near Thebes, hidden with other princesses and queens. The output has been much increased. A NEW PRECINCT. This City till Have Five Polling Places Instead of Four. MAY BE TROUULE Possible Cri is in Local Polities Which May Become Acute. The election now being held by the Sunday School committee for the choice of a lady to act as Pionfer Queen at the celebration oh the 24th has stirred the ' slumbering local politicians to activity, and a warm contest may ensue. Of course, it is all talk at present, but one cannot tell what might happen. Postmaster Dougall, ex-Mayor Deal, E. P. Brinton and J. S. Scott are working hard to put a citizen's ticket in the field, but all differ ou the selection of a nominee. Frequent conferences are being held, with some chances of ultimate harmony in prospect. .Judge Buyer, Tbos. Dallin, cx-Mayor Hall, Mayor Mont Johftson, and H. T. Reynolds believe in fighting fight-ing it out on party lines, and will excommunicate the fellows who take up with the citizens' ticket delusion. John Averctt, who is known to fame as the "Mark Tlanna of the Fourth ward," says 'the "Oh-Be-Joyfuls" are out of the fight, unless the Citizens indicate a desire to sell the City pasture. The Maccabees are also thought to be out of the contest, as at a meeting the other night they only succeeded In eliminating- In 47 ballots I of their 103 candidates, who were proposed as queen. This deadlock is thought to be perpetual. There are those, however, who believe a right lively contest would be a good thing. Each ballot cast will net the celebration committee five cents, and if all the discordant elements In Springville politics were to get by the ears in thisf matter and bring their pocket books with their preju.lices to the polls, the committee would soon have more nickels than a merry-go-round. Later Mapleton has just telephoned tele-phoned down to know how the various parties stand on the water question. No one seems to know. Maceabees at Spanish Fork. Spanish Fobk, July 19.
