Sprin grille's Srgar Beet Crop Now all Worked Up. WAS A TERY SUCCESSFUL BUK. Factory Makes a Very High ATerage form Sew Institution. Utah Crop Tills Year Shows an Increase. The sugar factory closed down late last Thursday night, after a verj successful run. The actual working time was twenty-six days, during which time 10,000 ton of beets have worked up, an average of about 400 tons per day. This a is high average for the first run of a sui?ar factory, the machinery being new, -nen somewhat some-what inexperienced, etc. The result has been very gratifying to all hands concerned. 1 he machinery is being attended to and put in shape for its season of idleness until next yeir. The beet growers are counting their gains and estimating their ability to handle contracts for next year. It is probable prob-able that a greatly increased acreage will be grown next year. The work of slicing beets will be resumed at Lehi immediately and about 14,000 tons will be disposed of before another stop. There is an unusual demand among the farmers for the pulp and they will clean up all the surplus that the cattle do not eat. Mr. Austin, the company's agricultural superintendent, goes at once to Sevier and Sanpete counties, where the farmers have made application appli-cation to plant 2,000 acres iu beets for next year. The officials of - the Lehi factory are gratified to be forced once more to raise their estimate on this year's output. It is safe now to sav that the yield for this season's run which will end about January 10th, will nut be less than 13,000.000 pounds, and it may slightly exceed that figure. The factory hands are all enthusiastic over the record, and say that next year's mark will be 20,000.000. The factory is keeping up its daily average of from 425 to 430 tons of beets sliced. BEST GROWERS MEET Pursuant to call a number of beet growers assembled at the City hall Saturday afternoon to consider a matter of interest in this industry. The meeting was organized with Mont Johnson as chairman and Ernest Boyer as secretary. There has been agreat deal of street talk in relation to the weighing weigh-ing of beets at the factory, and the docking of excessive percentages for dirt. It was proposed at this meeting meet-ing to address a petition to the Sugar company on the matter. On a discussion dis-cussion of the matter at this meeting, however, no very serious complaint could be beard of, and the matter was dropped. It was estimated that it would cost one cent per ton to secure the services of another weigb-master weigb-master to check against the factory's man, and as those present did not think the matter of that much conse-auence conse-auence the meeting adjourned without with-out action. The beet growers left the ball in a fairly contented frame of mind. How Is Your Wife! Has she lost ber beauty? If so. It is reported that a number of women who are licensed to practice obstetrics only, have been attending patlent ill with scarlet fever and diphtheria in some of the towns of tbe county, without reporting the cases to the proper authorities. To this practice is traced some of the reasons for tbe spread of these diseases. Women who are thus treating patients are violating tbe laws of the State, and are liable to a heavy penalty. Provo Enquirer. The Leamington correspondent of the Clear Lake Itecitw says: "Mr. Groesbeck, representing Wm. M. Roylance, of Springville, has taken his departure; having finished up the seed business for the present. He bought a little over 16,000 pounds which brought about $1,100. There were some badly disappointed farmers, for the seed crop was, for the most part, poor, owing to mismanagement. mis-management. There were some successes. Caleb Dutson took a window screen and sifted $11.80 worth out of thirty bushels of wheat. Wm. Dutson jrrew ten bushels of lucem seed on one acre of land.
