SriUNovii.LE, Dec. 7, 1898. Editor Indei-endknt In reply to the article in the Lthi Pan tier in regard to unjust taxation, I would say that Springville district has a more Just kick than any other tax burdened section of the county. I can show our Lehi friend one piec'i of 5,000 acres of farming land west of Springville that has been taxed ' for 35 years, and not one cent has been spent by the county in its borders. As to tax valuation, there is not a house in Springville which will rent for the taxes and keep up repairs. With tiie exception of Hobble Creek bridge, the city is a stranger to county funds. The system of valuation valu-ation Is rotten. For instance, in L ike Shore and Benjamin are two prices of property one in each district, of the same sizj and lying not very far from each other. One is mine and is assessed at $9G0. The other is assessed at $350. 1 h c un' y has t iken eight acres from mine for a road, and none front the other. The county compels me to pay taxes on that road regardless of my protests. ALDERMANIC OKEED. If any of the tax-ridden people of Springville had occasion to pass the Estray Pound last week they would have seen all that the word "greed" implies. They would have seen City cocncllmcn and their relatives doing public work work that belongs to the public and not at all to the councillors coun-cillors and their kin. I have lived here six years, and make bold to say that.kiiever have seen so much greed as there is in the public work of Springville. Isaac N. Wiiittakiu.
