A girl who is brougt up to consider herself too nice and her clothes too dainty to do the work her mother does is on the wrong road and , the sooner she realizes that the most truly beautiful, lovable and helpful tiling a woman can do is to make her home a happnl11- 1 w3 paying twelve cents restful place for all in it the betY"1(i one-half lor sugar several ter it will be for her. These would do well to listen to what the Reverend Sam Jones .has to say on the subject, who, whatever what-ever his eccentricities, knows a good thing when he sees H. He say.s: "The large trusts and combinations already form-ed, form-ed, and being formed, by aggr -gallon of capital, are considered hurtful to the masses and the common "people. This is u theory. Theoretically a thing may be so, ami practically it. mav he verv untrue. When we speak of trust and combinations combina-tions we think of the Standard Oil tiust, the sugar trust, the "tobacco trust, 'etc. When the Standard Oil trust was formed I was paying forty cents a gallon gal-lon for kerosene oil; I am getting get-ting it now for ten cents a gal- years ago, but when the combines com-bines set in we got it for five and a quarter. When the whiskey trust was organized I was in hopes it would put up the price of whiskey where the poor devils couldn't get it, hut they seemed to cheapen that down to where they can pay the government $1.10 a gallon revenue reve-nue on it and yet sell it -for $1.27, which domonstrates that ther are making it and letting the public have it at about sev- enteen ana one-nan cents a gallon. "There is no doubt the aggre gation of wealth, with brains controlling it, can manufacture any article cheaper than it is or has been manufactured on a small scale. The great railroad combinations, many think, will eat us up blood rare. Occasion ally I get on a little jerk-water road that is not in the combina tion, and I want to double m accident policies and be satis fied with a 15-mile-an-hour gait and console myself that I can ride all day for a dollar, but when I get on the Pennsylvania or Vanderbilt system of roads, with their schedules forty miles nn linnr vpssf.i hn lo tfniiis. vvit.li r . , . . ' PHflor. Cars, 1 Have fl liOlel Oil wheels carding me toward! my destination, and all this for 1 about two cents a mile, uive me the road that is in the com 1 T bine to carry me wuere I am going. "Public sentiment is the safe guard which is thrown arouix all aggregations of wealth un all combinations of interest. The Standard Oil, the railroa combinations, the sugar trust are as sensitive to public senti ment as the snow bank to the ravs of the sun. Trusts anc combines will not hurt the pub lie, but stockholders and bond holders mav sutler later on when these great bulky institu tions become unwieldy and fal with their own weight. "I am an expansionist, and I believe that one of the causes o stringency and shrinkage of val ues in this country, when they occur, will be because we have not gone out over the seas with our products, as we should have done. While there is a demam for our products of the farm anr manufactory of this country there will always be plenty o monev: but when wheat an corn and cotton, and all kinds of manufactures, are a drug on the market, and no demand for them, then we have -stringency and hard times. But when the highways over the seas are laden with our products into foreign countries, and the gold is brought back in the ships, then we shall flourish perennially. These great combinations are the only povers in this country that, can do this thing for. s. A negro and an old mule can make corn and cotton; a fellow. with a two-hundred-dollar sawmill can make lumber; but only aggregations of wealth and up-to-date appliances applian-ces can do it cheaply, and can build 'ships and open markets for our. -surplus in foreign lands. 10 0 Dyspepsia Cure Dincsfcs what you eat. rri,?Q wnrntinn contains all Of the t"".!":?
