There are thousands of home steads all over the bouudless west where the water supply is inadequate and in some cases it is annually becoming a serious menace to the comfort and safety of settlers. One of our traveling men in Utah recently stopped over night with Joseph Yates of Call's Fort, Box Elder county, and saw pumping plant which is working so successfully as to be worth describing in Field and Farm. It is a one-horse tread-power Success pump, the full cost of which delivered there was 1150 complete tread power and pump. It is of more value many times over than any windmill, wind-mill, because it is always sure. The important part is the well and its size. Mr. Yates dug his well close to the east mountains. It is twelve feet across with a two foot rock wall and leaves a clear space of eight feet and is thirty-three feet deep with three feet of clear water. This pump has been in operation since March I, 1900, and has never failed. Its capacity is fifty gallons a minute and is capable of furnishing water direct for any garden or orchard of five acres. Now let us, tell the dry farmers of the Rock Mountain states what Mr. Yates waters from this pump, lie had from SAM BACON'S TESTIMONY. The Springville Bill Poster and the Medicine Man. Many, many moons ago when his bill boards were nice and new, Sam Bacon posted some advertising for a man who had a hair renewer for sale, and took some of the medicine s part payment for his work. Recently the hair doctor wrote to Sam for a testimonial, and tiie accommoding bill sticker, who had fed the stuff t.i the hens to make them lay, at once wrote him as follows: t "flentlemcD: I recently bought a scalped ticket which the railway people refused to honor when I presented pre-sented it. I tried various expedients, but all in vain until, at the suggest sug-gest ion of friends, I had recourse to your Hair Vitalizer. After the use of six bottles of the same, the ticket. I am happy to say, was accepted without question." "You are at liberty to publish this letter." Rut Sam's testimonial hasn't been printed in the almanacs yet, for some reason. A Testimonial From Old England. 'I consider Chamberlain's Cough Remedy the best in the world for bronchitis," says William Savory, of Warrington, England. "It has saved my wife's life, she having .been a martyr to bronchitis for over six years, being most of the timecoDflned to her bed. She Is now quite well." Sold by Springville Drug Co. LOCAL LACONICS. John S. Groesbeck was a visitor at Eureka, Thursday. . Every married woman is living under an assumed name. Mose Johnson went to Hebcr Citv last week to engage in elocutionary work. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Yard and daughters were visitors at Salt Lake Saturday. Temperance Mass meeting is postponed post-poned one week, April 13, by order of committee. A man will never attempt to explain ex-plain to you that lie is perfectly soler unless he is at least half drunk; D.C.Johnson and John Anderson were in Salt Lake on business Saturday. Satur-day. Thcy chaperoned the guileless editor of this journal. You cannot enjoy perfect health, rosy cheeks and sparkling eyes If your livor Is sluggish and your bowels clogged. De Witt's Little Early Risers cleanse the whole system. They never gripe. City Drug Store. Saturday Mrs. G. P. Thompson of Springville returned to her home after a two weeks visit with her sister, Mrs. E. B. Kirk. Mrs. Kirk but recently returned from San Francisco where she underwent a very serious surgical operation. The lady's many friends are delighted to hear of her return home with the two to three hundred head of slock to water and driving these daily all over his alfalfa fields to the water ditch they not only spoiled the land but tore down the embankments, muddied the stream and it took the boys half of each day to attend this duty, as they had to go in three or four divisions so as to prevent mixing of the cattle. Now Mr. Yates has built a house over his pump. The horse is plpced on the power. The pumps are started and the horse can pump sufficient water in one hour through a two inch pipe into proper cisterns to water 500 head of cuttle. The water is warm in winter and cola in summer. The pump can be stopped by placing the little finger of the hand upon the lever. The pump works smoothly and the horse came out from an hour's work without a wet hair. The effect upon the cattle by being watered at leisure in their own yard is fully a twenty-five per cent gain in lieu of driving. In summer Mr. Yates after sundown irrigates his orchard and garden in one hour. Such a pump as this would be just the thing for many 0f tudy Jry sheep and cattle camps nil over the prairie country and will be needed the coming summer if ever. I have taken two bottles and gotten more relief from them than all other medicines taken. I feel more like a boy than I have felt In twenty years." Anderson Riggs of Sunny Lane, Tex. Thousands have testified as did Mr. Riggs: C. E. Tranchell, Cifrug Store. A Boston advertiser who has used nearly all of the various forms of publicity told a Jimton Jleruld inter-viewer inter-viewer recently that he now relies mainly on newspaper advertising. "Other advertising makes no permanent per-manent impression on me; but when ltukeupa newspaper It is for the purpose of learning something and my mind is In a state to receive impressions.
