Show Thursday, August 21, 2008 Senior Sampler: Retirement accounts and plans...or hijacked Dr. Lee Benson (PhD) It is now a well known fact that many, if not most, retirees-or about-to-be retirees-are having to rethink andor augment aug-ment their retirement plans and accounts because be-cause those plans and accounts ac-counts are being hijacked by inflation these days-by days-by things like the rising cost of energy, gasoline, food and many other things. Indeed, the fact is that most retirees-or about-to-be retirees-are currently making less than 6 annually an-nually on their retirement retire-ment accounts-and many are making far less than 6. And yet, inflation is currently clipping along at anywhere between 12 and 15 annually--depending on who one listens to, or believes. Hence, many people's retirement plans and accounts ac-counts are being eaten alive and they are having to either: - delay their retirement - work at least part-time part-time even after retiring - live a spartan life they Hole-in-one Kirsten Alder got a hole-in-one on hole 16 from 120 yards at Hobble Creek Golf Course. During these ages some puppies may become hypersensitive to distressing stimuli If you don't intervene, this fear may become aggression. Experts agree that more dogs are aggressive out of fear than for any other reason. It is something that shouldn't be ignored if you want a healthy, happy, social dog. It is possible to get your puppy through a fear period in good form. The best way to do this is to take a situation the dog feels upset in and turn it into an enjoyable one. Perhaps your puppy is frightened when visiting the neighborhood park. Maybe she cowers and hides when people approach. Start turning things around by visiting the park when no one is around. While walking the grounds, give her some tasty treats (something she doesn't normally get). Your aim is to help her associate the situation with positive things. It always helps to have a full tummy, too. When you see good results with an empty park, take her when there are only a few people and so on. Just remember that comforting your pet when they display fear is a'mistake. This is great for kids but dogs take the comfort as a positive reinforcement of the behavior they are exhibiting and she thinks being afraid is okay. A nice little pat on the head when they are doing well won't derail your efforts, though. If the treats and gradual exposure to the things r your dog fears are not knowledgeable trainer in correct the problem before in the future. There is hope for this increasingly disenfranchised disenfran-chised segment of our population, however-and however-and that hope comes in the form of "self -directed retirement accounts"or SDRA's. The law and the various vari-ous regulatory agencies and regulations that govern gov-ern such things allow--and have allowed for years-people to "self-direct" "self-direct" their own retirement retire-ment accounts, or monies, mon-ies, in search of a better return on that money than they may currently be getting. And virtually every institution in-stitution that manages or administers such retirement retire-ment accounts is required to allow retirees or about-to-be retirees, to become so involved in, or with, the management and administration ad-ministration of their own retirement accounts-and that even includes things Men's flag football league forming in Springville Springville City Recreation Recre-ation is now offering Adult Men's Flag Football starting September 1, 2008. Unfortunately, most institutions and organizations organiza-tions don't like to handle such retirement accounts because they do not, or can not, make as much money off of you if they do that. So, most resist attempts by their retirement retire-ment account based customers cus-tomers to do such things.
