Show Thursday, September 6, 2007 SPRINGVILLE HERALD Citizen supports Bird Editor. I have read with interest inter-est the many letters regarding re-garding the planned municipal mu-nicipal building, public safety building, fire station sta-tion and new park. The preponderance of the letters seem adversarial, along the lines that the city has overlooked obvious obvi-ous alternatives, or neighborhood neigh-borhood needs around the park are being trampled, or that citizen input is just simply ignored. Some writers pontificate the need for city council changes in the upcoming election, to change direction. In short, it appears that the issues have become more emotion than substance. sub-stance. As for me, Phfl Bird and Niel Strong, incumbents for re-election, and Rodney Rod-ney Burt, incumbent not running, are among the finest of people. They are high caliber men of good character in their personal person-al and public lives, highly respected by those who know them, very careful to be considerate of others oth-ers and their opinions, and they serve from the heart with no personal agenda. w W - f 1 I . Ami citizens are the ones who do that It requires people helping people - those in need Food banks are asking citizens to donate now and often of-ten before the winter months come. One LDS ward in Springville is asking their members to bring all the non-perishable food items they can to the ward'send of summer party. The ward is supplying the bags the night before as a reminder to fill them and bring them to the event Area food banks have reported that recentdonations totaled 250,000 pounds, a tow number for the slow summer sum-mer months. They need much more. Local community service agencies report that 10 percent per-cent of Utahns, including one in eight children, live in poverty. Last year they dYitributed 18 million pounds of food in the state. And that food has to come from you and me - citizens who can share their bounty. Hunger in America is a widespread problem, touching virtually all communities across the country and affecting affect-ing a surprising number of individuals and families. In Utah, people are often surprised at the extent of need found in their own neighborhood. Utah Food Bank Services Ser-vices and the statewide network of regional food banks, food pantries and other agencies are committed to providing pro-viding hunger relief to those in need. Canned, non-perishable foods are needed during the slow summer months. Get invoked today and help those in need The Food Bank in Provo is located at 815 S. Freedom Free-dom Blvd. They welcome your donations. Stop deficit U. Editor. Economic historian Peter Pe-ter L Bernstein danced all around the real cause of the dollar's declining value in his article in the August 5 New York Times.
