Her projects included taking President Hinckley's challenge to read the Book of Mormon, sewing modest clothing, writing her personal history and organizing children's activities at a ward Christmas party. The Palmyra Chapter of Sons of Utah Pioneers met last week at the Western Inn Motel in Spanish Fork. Members enjoyed a pot-luck dinner and a talk by Lyndia Carter, local historian of Springville, who gave an account of the rescue of the Martin Handcart Company in the winter of 1856 at Martin's Cove. Numerous groups of rescuers went from Salt Lake, Davis and Utah Counties, battling blizzards, deep snow and frigid temperatures and suffering much in the rescue process. The American Legion & Auxiliary celebrated their 89th birthday with entertainment by Dave Thomas, singing old favorite and patriotic songs. Guest speaker was Springville Police Chief Scott Finlayson. He talked about the many concerns of the police department including the need for a new facilites in the city. He also talked about gangs and said that gangs were also prevelant in the 1850's. They had gang names as they do now. He said that the new water lines being put in the city will disrupt traffic for many months and give the police problems.
