Show Coohout Icing sought Local backvard barhprnp should fire up their grills and get in practice for the county Farm Bureau's Cookout King Contest according to Jim Smith, Cookout King Contest chairman for the Utah County Farm Bureau. The competition is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 16. 1986 at the Spanish Fork Fair Grounds at 1 p.m. The contestants are judged on their cooking ability in one of five categories:, beef, lamb, pork, poultry, and dutch oven as well as showmanship. Winners in each category as well as the Cookout King and showmanship winner will be eligible to compete in the state contest September 6, 1986, at the Utah State Fair. He was born Sep. 22, 1932, in Salt Lake City to Karl B. and Delsa Grant Hale, He married Signe Marie Slanger on Feb. 28, 1962, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Raised in Salt Lake, City, he graduated from South High School and Brigham Young University. He filled a mission for the LDS Church to the Central States (Chicago) mission. Active in the LDS Church, he was instrumental in the computer typesetting of the Scriptures in several languages. He is survived by his wife and eleven children: Mary Jane Clark, Amy, Emily, Kathryn, Lucy, Karl, Judith, Jed, Elizabeth, Jacob and Joseph; two grandchildren; one brother, K. Grant Hale; four sisters, Delsa Joye H. Kuhn, Carol H. Peterson, Lois Hale and Barbara H. Fisher. Burial was in the Springville City Cemetery. Seal, 74, of Mapleton died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1986 at his home in Mapleton. He was born July 26, 1912 in Riverton to Franklin Edward and Julia Tempest Seal. He married Zelma "Teddy" Thorpe July 5, 1944 in Mapleton. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple . He graduated from Jordan High School and received a B.S. Degree from the University of Utah, a M. Ed.D. Degree from Utah State University. He was an active member of Phi Delta Kappa. In 1955 he was selected as chairman of the White House Conference for the Youth. He received numerous recognitions for his contributions to the Boy Scouts of America, and served 14 years on the Utah State Department of Curriculum Development and State Education Committee. He was an active member of the Mapleton Lions club, serving in all offices including president for two consecutive years. He was the District Governor for one year, and was appointed Willis Harmer Willis E. Harmer, 88, of Provo, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1986 at his home. He was born May 14, 1898 in Mapleton, a son of Loren Ellis and Sylvia Jane Houtz Harmer. He married Inez Roundy on Jan. 16, 1918 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died in May, 1972. He married Dorothy D. Nelson on May 14, 1974 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was reared in Mapleton and Springville and attended schools there, as well as Brigham Young University. He spent his early life farming. At the age of 25, he began working for Utah Packing Co., later transferring Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co., where he worked in the shop and was shop foreman. He retired with 38 years of service. He was a member of the LDS Church, having served as MIA President, counselor in the Elders Quorum, member of the Sunday School superintendency, in the Stake MIA superintendency, group leader of the High Priests, and ward clerk. He served on the Mapleton City council and was also secretary of the Mapleton Irrigation Company for many years. He was active in the Mapleton Lions Club, serving as president secretary. and Fern Fern D. Bird, 73, of Mapleton, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1986 in Provo of causes incident to age. She was born Sept. 8, 1912, in Salem to Joseph Albert and Johanna Koyle Dudley. She narried LaMar D. Bird Jan. 15, 1931. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa, Ariz. LDS Temple. He died January 1979. She was active in the DLS Church where she held many positions including service of 47 years in the Primary organization. Survivors include one daughter: Joan B. Jones Ted Roundy Ned "Ted" Roundy, 50, died Tuesday, July 29, 1986 in American Fork. He was born Dec. 26, 1935' in Mapleton to Adelbert Jr. and Lucy Ann Richardson Roundy. He married Gwen Nielson Oct. 14, 1960 in Ely, Nev. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was supervisor at Utah State Prison for 25 years. Survivors include his wife of Salt Lake City; two sons, one daughter: Edward Roundy and Mrs. Tod (Shelley) Powell, both Salt Lake City; Trent Roundy, Acting Governor. He served three years as District Cabinet Secretary and zone chairman. He was an honorary Life Member of the Utah Lions Foundation, and Recipient of both the President and Governors Awards and the Coveted Humanitarian Award. He received the Master Kay Award from the president of Lions International, and a Plaque of Extension Service. He was president of the Mapleton Irrigation Company for nine years, and served on the city Planning Commission for five years. He was a member and president of theTimpanogos Knife and Fork Club, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club. He and his wife helped establish the hospitality room during the high school tournaments at BYU. He was a lifelong member of the BYU Cougar Club. He was an active member of the LDS Church and had served in many church capacities. He was a High Priest- Willis Harmer Surviving are his wife of Provo; three daughters, Mrs. Reed L. (Naomi). Clegg of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Melvin H. (Maxine) Harwood of Murray; and Mrs. Ennis S. (Bernice) Woffinden of Benjamin; stepchildren, Mrs. Glen (Rae) Mildenhall of Provo; Mrs. Dale (Krista) Froelich of Murray; Joseph B. Nelson of Cleveland, Ohio; and Stevens C. Nelson of Chico, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; three great-greatgrandchildren; one brother and two sisters, Lewis J. Harmer of Pleasant Grove; Cora Ellis and Dora Harmer, both of Mapleton. Funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel, 211 E. 200 S., Springville. Friends may call Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Dr. Glenn Seal He had served as a guidance counselor at Springville High, vice principal at Grants High School in Grants, New Mexico, a guidance counselor at Kanab High and principal of the Escalante High School. He was a successful fruit farmer in Mapleton for many years. He is survived by his wife of Mapleton; one son and two daughters : Mrs. Ed (Julie) Goble, Syracuse; Mrs. Gary (Gaye) Blanchette, Poway, Calif. ; Robert T. Seal, Mapleton; 11 grandchildren; four sisters, one brother: Mrs. Clarence (Wilma) Goodridge, American Fork; Mrs. Jim (Shirley) Pennington, Joan Foster, Lowe Seal, and Mrs. Robert (Jean) Hansen, all Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by one son, Glenn "Gee" Seal. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Mapleton 2nd-6th Ward, 1215 N. 1000 W., Mapleton. Yonnie Rae Leetham Vonnie Rae Leetham, age 58, of Springville, died Tuesday, August 5, 1986, in Orem. She was born October 4, 1927, in Lethridge, Alberta Canada, to Marvin Joseph and Dorothy Hatman Smith. She married Max Leetham October 6, 1945, in Provo. They were later divorced. She was raised and attended schools in Springville. She owned and operated Vonnie's Beauty Shop in Springville or many years, and was a member of the Official Hair Fashion Committee, where she had won the Utah State Championship in Hair Designing. She is survived by one son and two daughters: Mrs. Mylon (Maxine) Fackrell, Randy Leetham, both Mapleton; Mrs. Jeff (Kim) Allan of Springville; 10 grandchildren; 1 greatgrandchild; great-grandchild; her stepfather, step-father, Guy Brown of Springville; two sisters: Dolly Boren of Orem and Vivian Jenkins of Salt Lake City. Graveside services were held in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of the Wheeler Mortuary, Springville. John Hamblin John Edward Hamblin, infant son of Lyman L and Kirma Lee "Kay" Kenner Hamblin, of Orem, died Wednesday, July 30, 1986 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo of a congenital heart disease. He was born Jan. 6, 1986 in Provo. Survivors include his parents of Orem; four brothers and two sisters: Carole Lesley Hamblin, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; Lyman Lee Hamblin, Jacob Kenner Hamblin, Todd Allan Hamblin, Mark Noble Hamblin and Kara Hamblin all of Orem.
