Accumulated amounts of moisture for the period was generally less than a tenth of an inch although a few stations exceeded that amount. Snowville with .48 inches was the largest amount reported followed by Silver Lake at Brighton with .37 inches and Ogden Pioneer power plant .29. In general most stations in the state ranged between one and two tenths of an inch below the usual normal for the week. Temperatures continued cold, averaging between 3 and 9 degrees below normal. This is the third consecutive week with below normal temperatures. Soil temperatures at the 4 inch depth ranged from the upper 50's in Cache and Salt Lake Counties to the low 60's at Richfield and the upper 70's at Saint George. The deficit in accumulated growing degree days since March first jumped another 25 to 75 degrees in the hole to range now between 150 and 400 degree days behind last year at most reporting stations. We promised last week to discuss the seasonal variability of precipitation in Utah. We mentioned that there are three maximums which occur in the northwestern part of the state. The first occurs in April or early May and is associated with an increase in the number of upper cold lows which occur during the transition from winter frontal conditions to summer thunderstorms. The second maximum is much weaker than the first and is associated with normal summer thunderstorm activity and occurs oc-curs during late July and August. The third is a little stronger and is again associated with an increase in the number of upper level low pressure cells over the great basin before the FOR SALE Automobiles IT'S HERE THE 470 West 100 North October 1, 1970 The Springville Herald Page Fifteen WANTED OLD coins wanted.
