Show PRESIDENT GETS PLEDGE FROM SILVERTON, OREG. The business men of Silverton, Oregon, when they went to the polling booths to vote in the recent re-cent presidential election, signed a statement pledging "Allegiance j to you, our President-elect, whoev- ' er you may be." The pledge these men signed to ' send to the victorious nominee is implicit in the suffrage of free people. While every individual has a right to vote as he, or she, sees fit, each voter is pledged to accept the result of the election. The ballot box in a democracy becomes the final judge of men and policies and its decision must be respected if the principles of j self-government are to survive. It . is inevitable that losers be disappointed, disap-pointed, it is essential that they acquiesce in the arbitrament of the election. |
