Show Brockbank Elected In Nebo Worlton, Fugal, Win In Alpine Dr. F. D. Worlton of Lehi and C. A. Fugal of Pleasant Grcrve were the sucessf ul candidate s to win places on the Alpine district board of education, in Wednesday's school election. The highest vote ever recorded in the district was brought out in both precincts, with seven candidates in the field aspiring to the two positions. Dr. Worlton received 434 votes, and his nearest competitor, Joseph F. Broadbent, polled 224 votes, and Mrs. Maude Adams 34. In the Pleasant Grove precinct, C. A. Fugal won out over his three opponents when he polled 202 votes. James D. Thorne received 108; R. D. Wadley 68, .and S. B. Smith 64 votes. Mr. Fugal succeeds Dr. O. E. Grua of Pleasant Grove, who was appointed two years ago to take the place of J. J. Hayes, who removed re-moved to Salt Lake. Dr. Grua re- Jfused to be a condidate for re-elec- tion. j Dr. Wells' T. Brockbank of Span-I Span-I ish Fork was the victor in one of 1 the most unusual school elections j ever held in the Nebo school dis-' dis-' trict, Wednesday. Although he had I not been certified as a candidate, 1 and his name did not appear on the ballot, 310 voters vr-ote his name in on the ballot to give him a majority of 39 votes over his closest clos-est opponent, Albert Swenson of Spanish Fork, who polled 271 votes. Grant Robertson, who was the other eleventh hour candidate with Dr. Brockbank, received 136 votes, all of them with his name written in. Mr. Swenson's name was the only one to appear on the ballot. T. F. Tolhurst of Payson, incumbent incum-bent and president of the board, was an easy winner in precinct No. 4, polling 372 votes over Grant Simmons, who received 26 votes. |
