Show DEPUTY ROW HANGING FIRE Approval of 3 Deputies Still Withheld by Gillman ; and Smoot. Confirmation of deputies in the county offices is still hanging fire, following' an order by the county commissioners a week ago that no county employes would be paid until un-til properly approved by the board. Deputies George Davis and Charles Coates in Sheriff J. D. Body's office of-fice and Daryl Fowler in Treasurer John C. Taylor's office, were refused re-fused confirmation at last week's meeting of the commission, in spite of the protest of Commissioner Charles H. White of Payson, who voted for approval. The deputies who have aroused thev ill-will of Commissioners Gill-man Gill-man and Smoot met with the commission com-mission Tuesday. Grievances causing the antagonism antagon-ism of Commissioners Smoot and Gillman towards the three deputies mentioned, were thoroughly aired at a conference in the commissioners' commission-ers' chamber Tuesday. Mr. Taylor and Deputy Fowler were closeted with the" commission in the morn-1 ing, while Sheriff J. D. Boyd and Deputies Davis and Coates met with them during the afternoon. No formal for-mal charges have ever been disclosed dis-closed by Commissioners Gillman and Smoot, who merely insist on witholding final confirmation of the deputies who have served since the 1926 election. |
