Show UNVEILING OF WELLS BUST IS ARRANGED Tribute Will Be Paid to Famous Fam-ous Utah Woman In Springville Spring-ville Thursday Night; Women to Join In Exercises All Utah county women's organizations organ-izations are cordially Invited to Join the women of the Kolob stake Relief Society at the unveiling of a bust of Emeline B. Wells, this evening, at 8 o'clock. The exercises will be held in the Springville high school aditorium, with Mrs, R. L. Mendenhall, president presi-dent of the Kolob stake Relief Society, So-ciety, in charge. Work of Dallin The bust Is presented to the Springville High School Art association asso-ciation by the Emeline B. Wells Memorial association. It is tho work of Cyrus E. Dallin, and art critics class it as one of the very finest pieces of sculpture to be found in America. The women of the state, irrespective irrespec-tive of their affiliation, united in honoring the memory of Mrs. Wells by having a marble bust made. This bust was presented to the state on February 29, 1928, the one hundredth hun-dredth anniversary of Mrs. Wells' birth. At that time it was placed in the rotunda of the Utah state capitol building, and was unveiled with fitting exercises at which Governor Gov-ernor George H. Dern and other notables paid glowing tribute to the life and works of Mrs. Wells. The bust to be unveiled this evening is a cast of the one in the state capitol, and the art association associa-tion feels highly honored in having it placed in its collection. Mrs. Wells was a pioneer leader in the cause of women's suffrage in this state, and a defender of women's rights everywhere. She was without doubt the most outstanding out-standing woman of her time in this state, and it is fitting that she should be thus honored by the women wo-men of Utah, those in charge state. Program Is Ready Following is the program to be given this evening: 7:30 to 8 p. m. Concert by Springville band to be given on lawn at high school campus. 8 p. m. Program in high school auditorium, with Mrs. R. L. Mendenhall, Men-denhall, president Kolob stake Relief Re-lief Society, presiding. Selection, Springville band; Invocation; In-vocation; vocal solo, Miss Melba Condie: reading (poem written by M. E. Crandall, on life of Emmeline B. Wells), Miss Lucy Wainwright;, violin solo, Prof. LeRoy Robertson; unveiling of statue, member of Mrs. Wells' family; acceptaince of statue, Ernest E. Knudsen, president of the art association; vocal HOlo, "The Fliig Without a Stain," Miss Kath-orine Kath-orine R. Dougall; address, Mrs. Ida Smoot Dusenberry; reading, Mrs. Katherine Salisbury. |
