Show Qouple Enjoys Dinner On Wedding Date Mr. and Mrs. James Straw celebrated cel-ebrated the occasion of their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary last Wednesday, with a dinner at their home to which relatives were invited. The dining table had a beautiful bouquet of roses as a centerpiece and two lovely wedding cakes also added to the table decorations. Attending the dinner besides Mr. and Mrs. Straw, were Mr. and Mrs. Lee Straw and daughter of Ogden, Mrs. Hilda Coffman of Provo, Mrs. Marjorie Miller and little daughter of Great Falls, Mont., and Mrs. M. R. Straw of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Straw were married mar-ried in Provo, January 27, 1SS1 and have lived in their present home on North Main street, more than 50 years. Mr. Straw was born in Springville, Spring-ville, January 22, 1S63, and has lived in Springville always. For about 25 years, he followed railroading rail-roading doing considerable subcontracting sub-contracting work in this and other states. Later he became stationary engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad company for 11 years. He retired in 1933. He is active in church work, serving at one time in the Third ward Elder's quorum presidency. He is at present pre-sent a high priest in the stake. Mrs. Sarah Whitehead Straw, a daughter of James and Fannie Boyden Whitehead, was born in Salt Lake City, December 16 1862. She came to Springville in 187.6. She is a charter member of the D. U. P. Camp Springville, and was at one time president of the Service Star Legion. She has been a teacher in Relief Society many years. The couple are parents of eight sons and daughters with four living. They are, besides those attending the dinner, Mrs. Muriel Parks and Mrs. L. D. George of Los Angeles, Calif. MR. AND MRS. RAY SCOVIL ENTERTAINED FOR FRIENDS at a delightful party at their home on Thursday evening. The group enjoyed music, social conversation and a delicious lunch. Guests included, Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Thorn, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Frandsen, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Reynolds, Rey-nolds, Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Franks, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Bird, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Conover, Mrs. Ira Allan, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Strong and Keith Scovil of Alameda, Al-ameda, Calif. DELPHIANS MET ON WEDNESDAY afternoon, at the home of Mrs. M. R. Straw, president of the group. Topics on the creative thinker, Thomas Henry Huxley, were given during the evening by Mrs. Charles Franks, Mrs. George Nelson, Mrs. F. L. Graham and Mrs. F. V. Martin. Mrs. J. W. was leader. |
