Cluff of Provo and his bride, the former Dawna Gay Mendenhall of Mapleton, who were found Monday after-' noon, victims of asphyxiation in a Nevada motel where they stopped enroute to San Francisco on their honeymoon. They were married Friday evening in the Salt Lake Temple and were honored at a reception Saturday night. The above photograph, the latest of the couple, was to have appeared in today's Herald I with an account of their wedding and reception, i ' Asphyxiation Claims Lives of Couple On Wedding Trip at Verdi Nevada : Tragedy struck the homes of Mapleton and Provo parents Monday Mon-day when they learned that their daughter and son, wed Friday evening eve-ning in the Salt Lake Temple and enroute to San Francisco on their honeymoon, were victims of asphyxiation as-phyxiation in a Nevada motel. The newlywedded couple, Marion Mar-ion H. Cluff, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer M. Cluff of Provo and his bride, the former Dawna Gay Mendenhall, 20, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Mendenhall of Mapleton, were found by the motel mo-tel manager, Lester Myland, when he entered the cottage Monday afternoon. : He said they had checked into the motel at Verdi, Nevada, near Reno, about 5 a.m. that day and had evidently turned on the gas heater before retiring. After their marriage in the temple tem-ple Friday evening, they were Calif.; Mrs. Heber (Gwen) Mehr, Sandy; Mrs. David (Lorraine) Dee Young, Los Angeles; Mrs. Loyal (Janice) Hastings, Mapleton. Maple-ton. Marion Henry Cluff was born Dec. 7, 1932, in Provo. He was graduated from Provo high school and attended BYU until he entered en-tered the army where he served two years, part of which time he was in the European theater. Following Fol-lowing his discharge he returned to Provo where he was employed at Geneva Steel plant. In addition to his parents he is survived by four brothers and four sisters: Jerry, Jack, Richard and Ronnie Cluff, all of Provo; Mrs. Norman (Nortica) Barker of Mapleton; Nelda, Seloma and Karla Cluff, Provo. given a reception at Mapleton on Saturday night and after arranging arrang-ing their gifts and personal belongings be-longings in their new home at Mapleton, left Sunday afternoon for a few clays honeymoon to the coast. It is believed they reached Reno late Sunday night and after spending some time there went on to the motel at Verdi Monday morning. Fathers of the couple went immediately im-mediately to Nevada after word of the accident reached here. Funeral Services Joint funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Mapleton ward church. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. and at the Aaron Mendenhall home at Mapleton on Friday before the services. Burial will be in the Provo city cemetery. Dawna was born Feb. 3, 1935 in Mapleton. She received her education, in Mapleton schools and was grauated from Springville high school. She attended Brigham Young University for one year and was employed in the LAJi church offices in Salt Lake City for a year prior to her death. She was active in music circles in her school days, having played clarinet in the Springville high school band. She played in the BYU concert con-cert band and toured with that group.
