Hospital to host breast Judy Eisner The Cottonwood Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers met Sept. 18 for their first meeting of the 2008-2009 year, where ssed the 158th birthday of Springville on that day. President Elma Evans reminded those present of the Quilt Raffle being held in December. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. The quilt was made by Lucille Laney and Joe Hudson with quilting done by the senior citizens group of Springville. Camp Cottonwood is in charge of taking care of the DUP marker at 200 N. 200 West in Springville. The camp is grateful and appreciative of the Farrer Family who reside nearby for their volunteer maintenance mainte-nance of the marker. Deon Hitchcock presented present-ed the ancestral history of her great-grandfather, John Grant Heggie. Heg-gie Heg-gie was born in Scotland and was a convert to the LDS Church. When he and his family arrived in America, Amer-ica, they left for Utah and made their first home in Tooele in 1858. In 1860 he married Martha Browning Smith. John's mother was the first to be buried in the 1 ooele Cemetery. He died Oct. 8, 1905. Betty Diamond told the story of the 1897 Pioneer Golden Jubilee, being the biggest celebration activity activ-ity west of the Mississippi at the time. The surviving pioneers of 1847 gathered on Temple Square July 24 to celebrate the 50th anniversary anni-versary of their arrival in Utah. Diamond also told of Katie Ka-tie B. Carter, the elected president of DUP in 1941, being instrumental in establishing es-tablishing a museum for pioneer artifacts gathered by the organization over the years. This was the founding of the DUP Pioneer Pio-neer Museum in Salt Lake. Jill Marsh was welcomed as a new member of the camp. The next meeting will be held Oct. 9 at 1 p.m. at 55 N.
