The best part was when an older man told a story about him, his little brother, their babysitter and a policeman. He had lots of actions and sound effects. There was a little boy who told a story about a ghost and the ghost kept saying "I'm going to scare you". A really funny thing was that we got lost on our way back to the bus to go home. Written by Jenna Hatch, 3rd grade Eye Care Notes ' Glasses for Children Dr. Traer Caywood When I prescribe glasses glass-es for kids I try to make specific recommendations about when the glasses should be worn. Depending Depend-ing on the prescription, the most likely time kids wear glasses would be for school. If there is an eye turn or lazy eye, the glasses must be worn all waking hours. If the prescription is quite high, full time wear is also necessary. When kids play sports it becomes more difficult to know what to do about the glasses. Sports glasses and headbands are helpful until kids get old enough for contact lenses, which happens around 12. Polycarbonate Poly-carbonate safety lenses are a must for kids. All children's frame manufacturers have pretty good warrantees against breakage which helps out when there is a mishap with the glasses. Several years ago, my son brought me his glasses, glass-es, which were bent almost inside-out, and he started to explain that the glasses were stepped on. I gave him my fatherly lecture about how he should be more careful and not put his glasses down where others might step on them. When I finally let him speak again, he said "Dad, we were playing football and I was wearing them when they got stepped on." Utahns For Public Schools (UTPS) ratcheted up their campaign to defeat de-feat Referendum One by airing radio ads urging Utahns to vote against Utah's flawed voucher bill. The ads follow last week;s multi-county bus tour and are part of a broad outreach effort to educate voters about why they should vote against the half -billion dollar voucher law on November Novem-ber 6th. The radio ad, entitled "Troubling," focuses on accountability concerns regarding private voucher vouch-er schools that receive public funds. A portion of the ad script is as follows: Woman: I mean, Referendum Refer-endum 1 just raises a lot of troubling questions-Man: questions-Man: Indeed. I was just reading about it here -- See - Referendum 1 is just riddled with loopholes. loop-holes. It sets few, if any, standards for private voucher schools. There's no requirement that schools be accredited. No accountability for our tax dollars. And - listen to this: "Teachers in private voucher schools are not required to have a teaching teach-ing credential or even a college degree." . The ad will run on the following stations: KSL-AM KSL-AM 1160, KSFI-FM 100.3, KUBL-FM 93.3, KRSP-FM 103.5, KOSY-FM 106.5, KODJ-FM 94.1, KKAT-FM KKAT-FM 107.5 and KBZN-FM 97.9. , UTPS launched their public information campaign cam-paign this week with print advertising in the Education Outlook section sec-tion of the Salt Lake Tribune Tri-bune and the ion the move to protect public schools' bus tour. The radio ads are part of a larger effort to education Utah voters about the flawed voucher law leading up to November's Novem-ber's vote. ! The pet magazine Cat Fancy had a great article this month on avoidance vs. marking. It said that wild cats often communicate with their urine and feces. A tiger, for instance, will mark along its territorial boundaries to discourage intruders. , Unfortunately, our diminutive domesticated tigers sometimes exhibit marking behavior, too. Marking is a trickier problem than litterbox avoidance and often requires treatment with medication such as Prozac, says Dr. Nicholas Dodman, a veterinarian board-certified in behavioral medicine and professor at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, How does one distinguish between the two? According Ac-cording to Dodman, a cat with litterbox aversion might mess next to its box, on the living room rug or in another unexceptional location. Urine-marking cats usually target something interesting. "The cat might urinate on a desk, shoes, its owner, clothes, the windowsilL." Discuss your cat's particular litterbox issues with your veterinarian to see what course of action is right for you. SIEMENS Edison Stanford Hearing Center DUPLEX III SFHII1QVILLE!
