Actually, there is nothing terrifying terrify-ing about the disaster preparedness training that you will get when you take the seven-week Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training course. The hardest hard-est part is getting yourself, and possibly two or three friends down to the training train-ing room next Tuesday or Thursday, Sept. 11 or 13, at 7 p.m. The same material is taught both nights, so choose which one suits your schedule best. After that you will have fun, fun, fun. Parking places are along the creek out of the way of the fire engines. The door to the training room is on the east side of the fire station sta-tion between the fire engines en-gines and the ambulances. We have a special agreement agree-ment with the fire engines. If we park in their lanes, they will drive over us. Cost for the CERT course, which includes the manual, green hard hat and Next week starts a new round of the seven-week Community Emergency Response (CERT) classes in Springvilie. Classes will be taught in the following order; September Sep-tember 11 and 13: Intro duction and General Disaster Disas-ter Preparedness for Your Own Home; September 18 and 20: Fire Suppression; Suppres-sion; September 25 and 27: Search and Rescue; October 2 and 4: Triage and Dealing With Shock, Bleeding and Lack of Breath; October 9 and 11: Splinting, Head-to-Toe Assessments, As-sessments, Other Medical; October 16 and 18: Disaster Disas-ter Psychology and Team Organization Methods; October 23: Terrorism and Sheltering in Place. Classes start at 7 p.m. and end around 9:30 with a snack break in the middle. All instruction includes hands-on experiences for participants. That is where the fun comes in. This is the right time. Motorists traveling U.S. Highway 189 in Provo Canyon .over the Labor Day weekend will see another an-other significant change to the highway construction construc-tion project. After more than two years of construction, starting Thursday, Aug. 30, vehicles will now travel trav-el along the new bridge which crosses the face of the dam at Deer Creek Reservoir, "This is a significant step towards completing the project. Hodg-kinson Hodg-kinson has served for five years in almost every area of the museum, and he has been named Volunteer of the Month for September. Hodgkinsori works in the May B. Huntington Research Re-search Library (the top), under the direction of Ruth Allred, associate curator of exhibitions and collections. There he makes CDs of the 100 Most Honored Artists of Utah, their works, biographies biog-raphies and photographs. He also keeps files on various other artists up-to-date and accessible. His foundation work provides the backbone for the library li-brary collectioa Hodgkinson has worked downstairs (the bottom) on new floor tiles, using a geological hammer and a good chisel to remove and repair some of the problem tiles. Hodgkinson joined Swanson and the rest of the staff as they worked on their hands and knees to stain the tiles also. His repair of chips and scratches scratch-es with acrylic paint keeps the floor as beautiful as the art surrounding it. One of Hodgkinson's favorite volunteer duties includes taking photographs photo-graphs of children at the Children's Art Festival during Art City Days and at the monthly Community & Family Night activities. He has also helped for several years with the set-up for the children's festival. He enjoys working work-ing with the youth volunteers volun-teers from the Springvilie City Y.outh Council, Art Royalty, Springvilie High School, BYU and other organizations or-ganizations that make the festival such a success. Hodgkinson and his wife, Erlene, have hosted the Sunday Evening Concert Con-cert Series at the museum for many years. They live in Springvilie and are the parents of two children and grandparents to seven. sev-en. He had a scientific career ca-reer with ExxonMobil as a marine biologist and paleontologist pa-leontologist but had little time for the arts. Now he is enjoying his artistic side of life. He excels in photography photogra-phy and has had several pieces of his work displayed dis-played in the Spring Salon and the Spiritual and Religious Re-ligious exhibits at the art museum. Hodgkinson thinks ; f h rr i ii" - Ken Hodgkinson working with the wonderful wonder-ful staff at the museum has been like adding a new family of friends. His appreciation ap-preciation of visual arts has been enhanced and he loves the variety of art and artists. He doesn't have a favorite because he likes seeing the diversity of ideas presented in new and fascinating ways.
