PS. g ' ft SHS Girls' Soccer: Devils tame Lions TurnOV6FS cost Red Devil Football Team Tf you only stayed for the first half of the girls' soccer game with the score being 3-1 in favor of the Lady Devils, you would not believe anybody any-body if they told you that the score ended up being 9-1, as the Devils went on an offensive tear in the second half, scoring six unanswered goals. The depth and talent of the Red Devils was over whelming for Payson to say the least, as they dominated domi-nated at every facet of the game, embarrassing the Lions on their own home field. The great team effort was led by Hailey Francis as she scored two goals. Afterwards she said, "It was fun to mix it up a little (some players played different dif-ferent positions), and we were able to regain some of our confidence." Other players that filled up the scoreboard for the Lady Devils were Kim Stratford, Heather Hatfield, Hat-field, Brianna Blackwell, Rachel Fischer, Sadie Clements, and Karissa Henage as the SHS Girls' Soccer Team wrapped up thier season with yet another an-other victory, bringing thier record to 11 wins and only 5 losses. Stan Dulot SHS STAFF WRITER Friday night was a frustrating frus-trating night for the Red Devils as they traveled to Timpview to a wet, cold sloshf est. The field was under un-der water in several places over the brand new turf. It was a game of turnovers, and the T-birds capitalized capital-ized on them while the Red Devils struggled to finish drives. IL statefarm com- Sterling Scholar 2007 Xanthe Webb SHS STAFF WRITER The cliche, "It's that time again," has perked up the ears of Springville High seniors se-niors once again. Sterling Scholar applications were recently made available on October 6th, which this has motivated seniors to put their scholastic and competitive com-petitive edge forward. The Sterling Scholar awards are very prestigious, given to the most qualified students stu-dents in these thirteen areas: ar-eas: English, Mathematics, Social Science, Science, Foreign Language, Computer Com-puter Technology, Trade and Technical Education, Family and Consumer Sciences, Sci-ences, Business and Marketing, Mar-keting, SpeechDrama, Visual Arts, Music, and Dance. There will be one recipient recipi-ent each, for all 13 fields, that will be named Springville Spring-ville High School Sterling Scholar. Then each winner selected will compete in the state-wide Sterling Scholar competition - in which one winner and several runner-ups will be named for each field. . Winning either level of the award is prestigious and will undoubtedly help the students as they apply ap-ply for college admission and scholarships. If you or your accomplished student has not heard of the start of this year's program, be sure to contact SHS's Mrs. Rabner, who is in charge of Sterling Scholar affairs this year. Academic departments and the administration will be judging applicants. Hopeful Sterling Scholars should have extensive involvement in-volvement with and should have made significant contributions con-tributions to the respective academic area(s). Judging Judg-ing will be based out of a 100 point measurement in which scholarship (ACT score and GPA) is totaled out of 50 points. Leadership Leader-ship and community service ser-vice will also be totaled out of 25 points each. Keep up to date on the Sterling Scholar deadlines, achievements, and winners. win-ners. The second quarter proceeded pro-ceeded to be a nightmare for the Devils as they fell behind 21-0 after the T-birds T-birds returned an interception intercep-tion for a touchdowa That was it for the night for scoring, and the halftime score of 21-0 was the final score. The second half was a stalemate as both teams failed to put the ball in the end zone. The Red Devils host Timpanogas this week, early on Wednesday. One of these is the N-O-T program which stands for Not On Tobacco. It's a class to help teenagers quit smoking and educate them about healthy lifestyles. NataLei Terry, a counselor coun-selor at SHS, gets referrals refer-rals and then interviews those students to see if they would be interested in a class with a safe environment environ-ment and with others in the same situation. . Mrs. Allred, a highly dedicated and respected SHS faculty member, is the teacher of N-O-T. Mrs. Allred volunteered her time and went to Salt Lake City to become a trained facilitator by the American Lung Association. Asso-ciation. She teaches ten classes during the year, usually starting in late October. The students learn about healthy lifestyles and habits hab-its and the emotional and physical effects of smoking. smok-ing. The Phillip Morris Suit is a grant that pays for all the materials so there is no cost to the students or the school. Last year every child in the class cut back or quit smoking completely.
