BURIAL OF MR. BLAINE. The funeral of Mr. Blaine occurred Monday at Washington. The dead etateiman had requested that the eervlcee be ae quiet ae possible, but they were attended by n vast crowd, including the most eminent men In the nation. All business in the capital ws suspended during the period when the funeral service were In progress. The presence of the President and cabinet and supreme judges and high officials of Congress and of the diplomatic corps wa not more significant than the homage of the waiting crowds, who in respectful silence lined the street through which the funeral cortege passed. The parlor on the second floor, where the body lay In ita cedar casket closely sealed, wu fairly embowered with floral tributes. The casket Itself rested on a huge bed of roses, violets, palm leaves and ferns sent by Mrs. Emmons Blaine, about nine feet long by four feet wide, tbe flower artistically giving the combination of color and design of an oriental rug. A large ship of state, sent by the Knight of Reciprocity, was near by, and around the pedestals on which the coffln rested and upon the coffin itself were a wreath of orchids and roses from President Harrison and a great moss of flower from other friends and relatives. Simple service were held at the house and then Hie body was born to tbe Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where Mr. Blaine wu a pew holder. The decoration t the church were very rich and effective. The terrace formed by the pulpit and the rail separating toe organ gallery from tbe platform, afforded a background for a striking massing of plants and out flower It was exaotly at 12 :80 when the slow and tolemn organ musto announced the arrival of the funeral party at the door of the chnroh. At the sad procession moved np toe aisle, Mr. Walter Damroscb, Mr. Blalnea wu at the organ, and played an lmpro-vtsat- e made np of several theme of hymns which Mr. Blaine loved. All present rose the funeral party and remained standing moved down toe aisle. Dr. Hamlin, the putor, walked at toe bead of the mourners, reading from the ritual of Presbyterian worship. Behind him came the two abreast, Senator honorary Hale and Frye, the representatives of the dead man state, leading the way. When all were tested the deep peals of the organ ceased and Dr. Hamlin from his place In the pulpit began the church eervlcee with toe reading of eeleotlona from toe Bcripture The reading finished prayer wu offered up by Dr. Hamlin. Dr. Hamlin prayer wu the only approach to a funeral discourse that marked the ceremonies of the day. At Its conclusion the Lord'! prayer wu repeated by tbe putor and a part of toe congregation and tbe benedlo-tlo- n wu invoked on all present, and at 12:45 oclock the ebnrcb service closed, the cuket wu raised and placed once more in toe hearse and the long procession moved toward Oak UiU cemetery. Tbe street everywhere were crowded by reverent observer The floral tribute so numerous that five wagon wer necessary to convey them to the cemetery, wer arranged artistically back of the grave on e huge strip of oanva u a, Oar Lin of Steamships.
