A A NOCTURNAL MAYOR Spanish Fork now has a Mayor only at night. In the day time he presides over about 15,000 chicks. Our Nation is giving much attention of music during the week. Special programs, talks, and musicales are taking place everywhere. May we do our bit by passing on to you some sentiment expressed by musicians and citizens of national repute THIS IS THE PLACE Utahns are so used to the phrase This is the Place that they have ceased to realize that it has a significance. Perhaps its because we cannot appreciate the sweet until we have tasted the bitter. A glance at most any newspaper will convince us that there are many advantages tc be enjoyed in Utah. Wednesday's piapers carried dispatches telling of earthquakes in India killing 7,000 people. One can not picture in the mind such a hoiou-casearthquakes in Utah are rare indeed and have not done serious damage. During the past week a tornado swept over North Central States killing and doing damage that ran into the million). Following that comes a report from Texas stating that 90 people lost their lives in another tornado. Japan also reports a typhoon doing away with 200 lives. t, Captain Daniels Returns From Military School Captain Hex O. Daniels returnel home duiing the past week after su: cessfully completing the course at the Fillll! Artillery School at Fort Sil.. Oklahoma. The course extended over a period of three months and was attended by forty national guard and reserve officers front all parts of the nation. The Ninth Corps area which includes the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Utah, Nevada, and Idaho, was represented by four men, one from San Francisco, one from Seattle, one from Couer de Lene Idaho, and Captain Daniels of Spanish Fork. The Instructor personnel of the school is composed of the finest material available from the United States Army. The purpose of the course is to impart a knowledge of military science to the atending officers, who in turn can act as instructors in their various localities. The local battery i3 at present composed chiefly of newly enlisted men. but many of the officers have been retained and with the very high type of enlisted men in the organization, it is felt that the battery will make a very creditable showing at the summer encampment, which will take place at the Jorgan Narrows from June 1 to 16 inclusive.
