Show Wot Sentinel B2 • WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10, 2010 Guardian of Your Community News ACT prep class SF Drill Team offered at SFHS Dons1 Early Light Mary Anne Hillier Spanish Fork High School will be offering an ACT prep class in March. Students are encouraged to take the ACT during their junior year to determine if they would like to take the test again during their senior year before colleges need the information. Senior students who have not taken the ACT test are also encouraged to take the class so they can be better prepared to take the test before they graduate. The class will start March 13 and will run for four consecutive Saturdays from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Subjects covered are reading, English, math and science. Cost is $50, payable in the finance office. Their performance included camp and competition routines. They also had solos performed by Kambri Shenk and Katelyn Swenson. After their performances they were awarded with a Mickey Mouse trophy. They enjoyed their trip and loved the warm weather. The Florida trip was a first for the SFHS drill team, having traveled to California in previous years. By Korinda Mathis. She helps with the CNA duties and with culinary arts for two and a half hours every other day. Her favorite part is helping people there. Her least favorite part is washing dishes, which there seem to be plenty of, she said. She is not a registered CNA but she plans on taking the class soon and wants to become one. On Thursday the officers and executive committee members visited every class during fourth period, handing out chocolate coins and a flyer explaining how much students can earn in the many different career aspects of agriculture. Later that same day Maple Mountain and Springville combined with Spanish Fork for a multi-chapter activity at Pirate Island. The activity most anticipated by many members was the Extreme Makeover Farm Edition on Friday. She says she wants to go to college at UVU or Utah State and become a photographer. MVP SPORTS IS PROUD TO SPONSOR TOP DON HONORING EXCELLENCE AT SFHS Matt Russell Sophomore Matt Russell is the son of Mikel and Sheila Russell of Spanish Fork. He maintains a 3.9 GPA and is the Sophomore Vice Presi4ent on student council. His favorite classes are history and choir. He runs the 400, 4x400 and 4x100 for the SFHS track team. In his free time he likes to hang out with friends. On a road trip, he would travel to California and would listen to rock and hip hop. 72 N. Main Spanish Fork 798-3587 SPORTS TECHNICALLY SPEAKING: Spanish Fork High School students were privileged to hear a presentation by Teri Lisa Stagg, a representative from ITT Tech, on Thursday, Feb. 25. Stagg informed the students of the top 10 careers on demand over the next 10 years, and motivated them to attend college. This presentation also came with free donuts and drinks for all who attended. Students left with more information on their possible future careers and the knowledge that the more education you have, the more money you can make in the future. By Chadia Siilata. Courtesy photo SFHS bands to host benefit concert Lori Swain SFHS On Tuesday, March 16 at 6 p.m. Spanish Fork High School's Band and Orchestra's will be holding a Benefit Concert for the Red Cross. Playing their festival pieces, performances will include the jazz band, concert band, chamber orchestra, philharmonic orchestra and the symphonic orchestra. The Art Department will also be having a display in the commons for visitors to look at before and during the intermission of the concert. The concert is free, but donations for the Red Cross will be accepted throughout the evening. Selections include: "The Washington Post March," "Chorus Angelorum," "Sonata for Strings," "Academic Festival," "Procession of the Sardar," "Ghosts of Branden- burg," "A Night in Tunisia" and" I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance With You," each piece challenging and teaching the students about different types of music. The Spanish Fork jazz band recently participated in the Region Jazz Festival. The orchestra will perform at Region on March 24, 2010. SFHS will be hosting Region Concert Band competition on March 31. |
