Urban fishing is open to youth ages 6-13. This is an opportunity for youth that have the desire to learn how to fish but have not had that opportunity yet. Urbanfishingis a joint venture between Spanish Fork Parks and Recreation and the Division of Wildlife Resources. The program focus is teaching youth about fishing and aquatic resources. Program meets once a week for six weeks beginning on Mar. 30, 2010. Early Registration fee $10 ends Mar. 18, 2010; after that, registration will be $15. You can register on line for youth sports at www. reconline .spanishfork .org. Pavilion rental is now available for the 2010 season. Make your reservations now for your summer reunions. Olivia is the youngest of three children; she has two older brothers. She was born in Micronesia and just recently got her US citizenship. She is in kindergarten this year and loves to paint, draw, use watercolors and the color pink. Her favorite food to eat is gyoza which are similar to pot stickers. Salem City is excited to offer their spring youth soccer program with the goal of splitting teams by grade and gender wherever possible. They are planning to make 7th-9th-grade teams gender-based. K-6thgrade leagues will play on Wednesdays and Fridays. Teams will be divided on March 31,2010. Teams will have two weeks to practice before the first games start on April 14, 2010. The 79th-grade league will play teams from Payson and Spanish Fork. Playing dates may vary. The cost for spring soccer is $20 for grades K-6 and $30 for 7-9th grades. Reusable jerseys are available at the recreation office for $10. You child may play in the same jersey as long as it fits. Salem Recreation has also purchased a field lighting system for a baseball field and grass areas at the Downtown Park, which they hope to use in the fall. Youth coaches are needed for many of the leagues. Early soccer registration ends March 17. Salem softball season coming Little Kickers Soccer This is soccer for 4and 5-year-old boys and girls that prepares them for organized youth soccer in a fun and non-threatening environment. Recreation coordinators teach and work drills with child and parent that assists the growing and development of beginning soccer players. This four-week program will begin April 15, 2010 and run to May 11, 2010. Sessions will be held twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-7 p.m. Registration is $5 and includes a Little Kickers t-shirt. Early registration deadline is April 5,2010. Urban Fishing The Youth Fishing Program is open to youth grades 3-6. This program is a joint venture between Salem Recreation and the Division of Wildlife Resource. The program focuses on educating youth about fishing and aquatic resources. The first class wiIlbeheldApril7,2010at the downtown ball park. All other classes will be held at Salem Pond. Registration is $ 15 if paid before March 22, 2010. Each participant should provide their own pole.This is a six-week program. All participants will receive a Salem Fishing Club t-shirt. Youth Baseball and Softball Youth Baseball and Softball for boys and girls grades 3-12. Registration: March 22-23,2010 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Recreation Office. Leagues are divided by gender and age group. After teams have been drafted, registration will be accepted on a space availability basis. Boys and girls grades 3-8 will play the majority of their games TuesdayThursday evenings. Players that are returning to the same league and team from last year do not need to at- tend tryouts.All boys will be required to wear white baseball pants in city league games. Adult Coed Softball Teams may now sign up for spring softball. Salem will offer two adult coed softball division on Wednesday evenings. Both leagues will play an 8-week 12game schedule, including some double-headers. Cost is $365 per team if paid by April 5, 2010. League play will begin with practice games on April 21, 2010 and opening night on April 28,2010. A $5 non-resident fees will apply to non-Salem residents. Jamie caught the passion of the idea, and agreed to go to work. Fourth runner up was Samantha Raleigh, daughter of Chris and Pam Raleigh. Rebecca Johnson was named Miss Spanish Fork 2010. She was given a sash and a crown, in addition to a $3,100 scholarship, a $3,000 scholarship from Marinello Cosmetology, and a $900 allowance for Miss Utah Expenses. For her talent Johnson performed "Prelude in A Minor" by Rachmaninoff on the piano. "I'm so honored," Johnson said. "I wasn't expecting this at all." |
