Show B4 • WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2009 Sentinel Guardian of Your Community News DFJH DFJH football, wrestling Mason Reid and Collin Swenson DFJH Courtesy photo SERVICE PROJECT: At DFJH a group of students have been spending their enrichment time working on service projects. One of these projects was knitting winter hats to be sent to U.S. soldiers serving in Afghanistan. This particular group of soldiers is responsible for locating and destroying enemy bombs. The soldiers will give the hats to the local Afghan people in exchange for their help in completing their military mission. After a lot of hard work and practice. Diamond Fork Junior High School's wrestling and football programs are doing very well. The football season ended this year with a 7-2 record for Maple Mountain High School's Junior Varsity team. Team member Gabe Gutearaze said, "It was a very good year and I am excited for .next year!" Wrestling has gotten off to a good start this year, and it looks like a promising season ahead. Team member Morgan Kropf said. "Wrestling is a lot of hard work, but it's worth it." On Saturday, Nov. 21 a big tournament was held with schools from around Utah competing. This tournament was held in honor of Caleb Williams, who passed away a couple years ago. The DFJH team medaled in a several different weight classes. Canyon Courtesy photos WORD WISE: Each year the Spanish Fork Rotary Club along with local banks and other financial institutions, purchase dictionaries and donate them to students in Nebo school district. Todd Harrison, of Bank of American Fork and the Rotary Club, presented dictionaries to the students. The students use the dictionaries to study words for their upcoming grade level spelling bee. The Rotary Club has also purchased trophies to give to the winners of the spelling bee. C WEEK: It was C week for kindergarten students at Canyon Elementary. Cole Gwilliam, a student in Misty Harris' afternoon class, decided he wanted to invite BYU mascot, Cosmo, to be his show 'n' tell item that started with the letter C. Cosmo came and handed out autographed pictures to the kindergarten students. YOUNG INVENTORS: Second grade students at Canyon Elementary got to participate in an "invention Convention." They could invent something new or alter an existing idea. They got to display their inventions in their classrooms for students and parents to see. Various classes are held after school each day.
