MMHS bests Timp James Hardman STAFF WRITER On Thursday Aug. 27, the Maple Mountain girl's volleyball team hosted the Timpanogos Timberwolves in a high-speed, thrilling game, pulling a 3-0 win, defeating the Twolves 25-10, 25-20 and 25-11. "When you come out with a win you can't complain." said Coach Amber Hall. The first game went by quickly with junior Brittany Taylor scoring 11 points as a server. Kylee Bendtschneider, a sophomore, also picked up five points for Maple Mountain. The second game started the same with Maple Mountain taking the lead early. At 16-10* the Timberwolves increased their intensity to close the scoring gap. But freshman Rachel Mitchell sent a hard spike down onto the Timpanogos side of the court, ending the game at 25-20. Sophomore CeLin MacDonald scored eight points, and Taylor served five points. As the second game came to a close, both teams were pumped and ready to go. Manuela Santos,Taylor and Bendtschnieder helped the Eagles pull ahead. The final volley passed back and forth from one side of the court to the other until MacDonald blocked the ball to score the last point, ending the game with a score of 25-11. "I was really pleasantly surprised on how this team has done this year so far. It's a really young team with only one senior and one junior starting," Coach Hall said. "These girls are so great. They come early to practices and they stay late. They really did a good job on this game. There were some ups and downs, but we did «ood." The SF volleyball team has enjoyed early success this 2009 pre-season and appears to be a dominate team in the 4 A ranks. The Lady Dons return 5 experienced seniors and some very talented juniors and sophomores. The SF volleyball team is led by captains Kylie Schofield and Erin Redd. The match scores were 25-15, 24-26, 18-25, 25-14 and fifth match 15-11. f Eagles Struggle to Maintain Momentum in week 2 The American Leadership Academy Eagles lost to the Bear River Bears 53-23 in Tremonton this weekend after a big opening week win against Manli. The Bears opened there season with a 60-34 win over Logan. The Bear River Bears are now ranked 4th in 3A. The Eagles just made too many mistakes against a good team to be successful; mistakes such as five turnovers four of which came in the first half. The Eagles came out and fumbled the opening kick-off and gave up a quick touchdown three plays later. For the second straight week the offense had a tough time getting going, and really didn't move the ball well in the first half. After a punt the Bears were pinned deep.
