Show SPANISH FORK Covering what matters most A6 • WEDNESDAY, JULY 1, 2009 Introducing Silver Bucks Chamber event Christene Choate STAFF WRITER Spanish Fork's Matt Malachowski has been working on an idea to stimulate the local economy for over a year, and has now come up with his own bartering system, Silver Bucks. Malachowski has been selfemployed for over 15 years, influencing his interest in wanting to create stronger local economy. Malachowski's idea has now become a reality with 10 local businesses participating and many others considering the idea. Silver Bucks uses the idea of bartering to help the local economy grow, mainly among small businesses. "Bartering allows a business owner to exchange goods or services for something of value rather than spending their hard-earned cash," said Malachowski. Silver Bucks uses coins that are minted out of pure silver. Coins are purchased in incre- ments from 10 Bucks, which weigh a quarter ounce, up to 40 Bucks, which are a full ounce. "Silver Bucks is different than other bartering systems. Because the bartering tool is made out of pure silver, it has value in and of itself outside of the barter network," said Malachowski. The Silver Buck is not a US dollar, so it will not be obtained or traded for at a bank. Silver Bucks are only available through participating businesses. Local businesses include: Toy It Up, MVP Sports, I Dunno Diner, Malinda Photography and Conductive Electrical Contractors as well as Timpanogos Wellness in Orem, Organa International in Mapleton, Surface 9 Web Designers in Sandy, and GT Auto Sales in Provo. Not only is silver inherently valuable, but Malachowski said the value of silver/precious metals will increase compared to the value of the US dollar. Silver is inflation- Matt Malachowski proof while the value of a dollar is always in question," said Malachowski. Silver Bucks will only be available to small, local businesses. "The idea is that instead of going to major department stores to purchase everyday items, consumers will stick to local businesses as much as possible. Also, the coins can't be exchanged at the bank. This keeps them in the local economy where they belong," said Malachowski. The coin itself was made in a mint just outside of Seattle, Wash. Each coin features a picture of a buck deer, hence the name Silver Bucks. The phrases, "Trust God," and "Liberty" are something Malachowski insisted to place on every coin they mint. "I'm very passionate about the use of real silver for trade, because I want to bring real value back to our economy," said Malachowski. Lenders and servicers are very busy with desperate homeowners trying to save their homes from foreclosure. Unfortunately, they do not have the manpower or the capabilities to save everyone. Many people are simply getting lost in the system and suffering an unnecessary foreclosure when they could have worked it out with their lender differently. Fact: A loan modification will take the mortgage you now have and change the interest rate and payment requirements in order to achieve a fixed rate. A change in rates and payments does not result in the need for a new closing-, legal fees, survey, appraisal, or taxes. In contrast, if you "refinance" a loan you'll be required to have a closing and be forced to pay a variety of fees and taxes. "It is not often that a company actually touches lives in the way yours has. You gave us a second chance. The frustration of what was happening to us was beyond words, and you took that away for us. Thank you so very much." - The Naddine. Family "You truly save lives! You cut our payment to less than half and allowed us to keep our home. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I would recommend you to anyone who needs help." - Jake and Pauline Dossier LOCATION 210 North 1200 East Suite 200 Lehi, Utah 84043 Fortified F i n a n c i a l Call today! 801-878-6235 http://www.fortifiedfinancial.com/ |
