Show SPANISH FORK WEDNESDAY, JULY 1 , 2009 • A5 Covering what matters most Lake Shore Families, friends and e x tended relatives came from near and far to participate in the annual Lake Shore Homecoming, held on June 19-20, 2009. This year's theme, "Lake Shore's Got Talent", was chosen by Chairpersons Kurt and Teri Jensen as well as their cochairs , Brett and Nicole Herbst. The events included a flag ceremony; children's parade and games; two display rooms with photos, trophies , movies, humanitarian quilts/dresses/hygiene kits; programs; crafts; baked goods and a delicious pork rib dinner on Friday night. After Saturday's program, Brent Gordon, park committee member, thanked all of the homecoming chairpersons and committee members, who had worked so diligently to make the two-day event such a success. Every picnic table at Friday night's dinner was full to capacity as community members awaited the announcement of Ralph and Sharon Bellows, who were chosen as Couple of the Year. Kaye Ashby was selected as Citizen of the Year. The family members for all the honored community members had secretly prepared tributes, which were given at Friday night's program. Their children presented a nice slide show and honored their qualities. 'They are open to new things,extraordinarily wise, patient, reliable and greet us with many smiles," they said. They rode at the beginning of the children's parade on Saturday morning in one of the restored cars from the Miner family. Ralph and Sharon Bellows are the parents of seven children: Deann (Wes) Anderson, Janet (Bryan) Sanford, Charlotte Grotegut, Keith (Lisa) Bellows, Ryan (Anna) Bellows, Jennifer Bellows and Aaron Bellows, and they have 14 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. They were married Aug. 11, 1956 and later sealed in the Manti Temple on Oct. 12, 1963. Sharon has been a Relief Society President, and Ralph served in the bishopric. Sharon has volunteered in the community as the PTA President, and a Pink Lady for 15 years at Mountain View Hospital. Ralph is very friendly, and likes to serve his neighbors and friends. They also served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brisbane, Australia. Kaye Ashby was honored J •...-' ;L omin as the Citizen of the Year because her dedication and service has helped improve our community. She retired from teaching school in Morgan, Payson and Spanish Fork after 30 years. She has influenced the lives of many of her students for good. She moved to Lake Shore 19 years ago (1980) with her late husband, Merrill H. Ashby. She has missed him since his passing on Nov. 23,2001. They are the parents of four children: Dale (Eulon) Ashby, Karen (Stephen) Bastow, Wade (Alice) Ashby, and Roy (Marni) Ashby. They have 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Over the years, she has served in many LDS church ward and stake auxiliaries, in teaching and in executive positions. She's served as a Provo Temple worker for the past 15 years. Her interests and hobbies include gardening, BYU sports and traveling (Mexico, Guatemala and Africa — humanitarian projects). She enjoyed riding in a convertible car in the parade. The Lake Shore 1st Ward royalty included King Kade Sorensen and Queen Brinnley Gordon with Princes Cole Sorenson and Bronco Gordon. The Lake Shore 2nd Ward royalty included King Skyler Rigtrup and Queen Kate Jones with Princes Christian Rigtrup and Wade Jones. Chris and Caden (son) Hermansen as well as Robert Hudson and Jared (son) Hudson won won the Monday night homecoming kick-off for the golf scramble tournament held at the Spanish Oaks golf course. Jim O'Brian was the winner of the trap shoot held at the gun club the following Wednesday with a score of 25 out of 25 clay pigeons. Shane Laird also received a t-shirt with a score of 23 out of 25. To replace the original rodeo that used to be included in the festivities, a new competition called "Lake Shore Iron Family" was introduced. The winners were Mike and Jackie Healey with Chris and Taylor Brown. All family teams included a man and a woman, with two children under the age of 18.
