Show orts Covering what matters most A10 • WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 04, 2009 H20 Dons place in Region IV swim meet in Lehi Mike Olsen STAFF WRITER The SFHS H20 Dons competed in the Region IV swim meet this past weekend and really liked what they felt in the water. A large majority of the individual swimmers and relay teams shaved significant amounts of time off of their previous records. The time drops were possibly aided by the shaving party many of the team participated in the night before Regions. Coach Hartley suggested it was due to the significant amount of work the team has been putting in the past two week at their 4:30 a.m. practices. Regardless of the factors, the H20 dons looked and swam great. Two swimmers from the Dons team took first place in their events. Sophomore Jesse Roberts set a new Region IV record in the 200 IM with a blistering time of 2:02:06 breaking the previous record by over 1.5 seconds. Jesse also took home 1st place in the 100 yard Breaststroke. Junior Bonny Dowling brought home another 1st place finish for Spanish Fork with her time of 1:01:77 in the Girls 100 Butterfly. Not to be left out of the celebration, several relay teams qualified for state with their stellar performances. The 3rd place Girls 200 Yard Free Relay team of Adelay Duffin, Merika Olsen, Holly Christensen and Bonny Dowling will be competing at state. After a Juan Diego win, Salem Hills bounced back, when Jacob Bracken fought off defeat to pull out a big win, something that really impressed Coach Brindley. "Jacob was thrown and on his back in the 1 st period and he fought very hard to get off his back, and ended pinning his kid in the 3rd period," Brindley said. By earning another victory and locking up second place in region, the Skyhawks can prepare to continue their surprising season in the state tournament. There will probably be plenty of teams at state that haven't even heard of Salem Hills, but after a couple of Skyhawk beatdowns, they'll know that the Skyhawks are for real.
