Skyhawk tennis team Lady Dons take on AF competes at state Bryan Redd STAFF WRITER The SF volleyball team took a huge step forward last Thursday when they played the AF Cavewomen in a tough and exciting region match. The Dons played some of their best volleyball this season, showing mental toughness and competing hard. Every game was a point-for-poinl battle. AF would win 3-1, but the Lady Dons were very proud of their effort. Game one started close; each team sided out consistently. AF would build a four-point lead twice, only to have SF come storming back. Nicole Schofield had a break-out game at middle with five blocks as the Dons dominated at the net. The Cave women won 25-23, benefiting from SF service errors. The Lady Dons had nine kills, 12 blocks, two aces and five digs. Game two had AF jump out to a 9-16 lead before the Dons served themselves back into the game with a six-point rally, tying the game at 15-15. Both teams sided-out frequently and it came down to service errors for SF as the Dons dropped game two to AF 25-22. The*Lady Dons had six kills, two blocks, one ace and seven digs. The Dons took game three, 26-24. The game seesawed back and forth, with neither team leading by more than two points. SF played one of the best games of the season. The Dons dominated at the net. The junior outside hitter has been dominant at the net all season, beating blockers across the region. Redd's height, 6 T , and vertical leap give her an advantage, even against taller opponents.
