Show Guardian of Your Community News A12 • WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBERS, 2009 MMHS athletes Pre-region meet held at SHHS Namon Bills EDITOR All six Region 8 teams met at Salem Hills High School for the pre-region cross country meet. In addition to seeing how they stack up against the rest of the pack at the beginning of the season, pre-region also gives runners a preview of the course they'll run again at the region championships in October. As a team, Springville won the boys' race, while Maple Mountain, in their flrst ever cross country meet, won the girls' race. Just three points behind, Maple Mountain's boys finished second, with Salem Hills three points behind them in third. The Skyhawks placed second in the girls race. Spanish Forkfinishedfifth in both boys and girls races. In the boys race, Maple Mountain Junior Spencer Hanson led the way with a first-place finish over the three-mile course. Hanson's time-of 15:41 set a new course record, according to Salem coaches. Salem's Tyler Gebert finished second at 16:24, followed by Springville's Joseph Christensen and Maple Mountain's Holden Adams at 16:34. Zach Johnson of MMHS finished seventh, and Alex Minson of Salem rounded out the top 10 with a time of 17:43. Spanish Fork's top finisher was Tyler Gait at 18:52. In the girls race Cosette Stone of SHHS led throughout, finishing with a time of 19:50. She was followed by two Golden Eagles, Kelsie Hadlock (20:46) and Ashley Phelps (20:50). Other than sixth-place Jade Johnson of Uintah, the top 10 belonged to Maple Mountain and Salem Hills. Salem's Kaetlin Bracken finished fourth (20:52) and Skyhawks Becca Jones and Diana Moreva finished seventh and eighth, respectively. From MMHS, Hayley Knapp finished fifth, Rachel Warnick finished ninth and Chaliece Jones finished tenth. Spanish Fork's top runner was Emily Barrington, who finished 15th at 23:01. MMHS Pizza Factory varsity athletes of the meet are Lance Merrell and Rachael Warnick. Lance Merrell, son of Roger and Lana Merrell, ran at the pre-region meet with a time of 18:00. Rachael Warnic, daughter of Karl and Shauna Warnic, ran at the pre-region meet with a time of 21:36. Zubs JV athletes of the meet are Shay LeFevre and Sam Raleigh. Shay LeFevre, son of Spencer and Shelly LeFevre, ran at the pre-region meet with a time of 19:19. Sam Raleigh, daughter of Pam and Chris Raleigh, ran at the pre-region meet with a time of 22:50. Her favorite movie is Cars and she enjoys any variety of music, unless its rap. In her free time she enjoys hiking, outdoor activities, to cook and hanging out with friends.
