Show SPANISH FORK Covering what matters most B2 • WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2009 CTE month at SFHS Kaydee O'Brien SFHS Do you know what CTE means? CTE means Career Technical Education, and Spanish Fork High School celebrated a whole month for it. During the week they had questions during announcements about classes that students would have to answer and place them in a box in the office. If they won, they got a treat. On Wednesday they had people from businesses and colleges come and talk to the students during lunch. I interviewed a few; Marlen Savik was from the Utah Helicopter Flight Academy. This is where students can go to be trained to become a commercial helicopter pilot. With this education you can receive your license in about 1 year. To be hired on as a commercial pilot, a person needs about 3 1/2 years of school and lots of hours of practice. Mr. Savik talked to the students about the opportunities and benefits of becoming a pilot. She wants to encourage the students to go to this college because it offers all kind of schooling and not all the classes that hold students back from getting their degree. MATC is also a technical college which makes it much cheaper than universities. SSG Watroba from the U.S. Army came to talk to the students about that challenging career to be held in the Army. Students don't even have to attend college or get their High School diploma, but she encourages them to go all the way in school so they can get in the higher rankings and leadership. This career gives stu- dents the skills of everything on the outside and gives them plenty of opportunities in the field of other careers. One of the students that attended this event was Jennifer Mills. She visited the Massage Therapist. Shesaid, "It was very interesting to know about her job and that she encourages everyone to go into this career." Mt. Loafer Courtesy photo MARVELOUS MVPS: For the month of January, students at Mt.
