The senior wingman knocked down a huge three pointer to tie it up at the break to give SF some momentum. Unfortunately, the Cavemen came out strong in the second half with a 4-0 run to re-gain their lead. Soon the crowd got involved and the home team fed off the adrenaline rush to increase their lead by as many as nine. Thorpe wrestles at 152 lbs. and had a good year for the Dons with a 30-10 record. Thorpe was Spanish Fork's top finisher at the 5A state wrestling tournament, placing third. Thorpe said state was a good chance to "see how you match up against the best/' and that it was really good to place at state. Thorpe also plays football and baseball for the Dons. from junior guard Ren Williamsen. Williamsen used good athleticism to get to the rim and spark SF for a comeback. He helped his team by dropping some contested inside shots but most of his damage came from the line where he was 9/10 with charities. Spanish had crept within three at this point and their press paid dividends. After another steal, Lewis dribbled the right baseline before making a nice spin move around the defender for a big deuce to get within one. But the Cavemen answered with big shots of their own which frustrated the red and gray yet they didn't quit. On an inbound play after another Dons score, Travis Still displayed his quickness and soft hands. With arms spread out in front of the Caveman, he intercepted the inbound and, as if the round ball were a hot potato, he instantly found Loftin underneath for a big lay-up. But it was another nail-biter which swung the way of their opponent. For SF, Williamsen led all scorers with 16 while Lewis followed with 12. Jones finished with nine. Both Loftin and Still pitched in eight a piece. SF rec. notes Baseball/Softball Registration Spanish Fork Recreation is now accepting registrations for the 2009 youth baseball/softball season.
