Kim Christofferson, who serves on the committee, said that it was "heartbreaking" to see the trip cancelled. The veterans that had been scheduled to go had been planning on the trip for six months. "Many have restored their uniforms, found medals, and lost weight to proudly wear them again on sacred ground, among their comrades," Christofferson wrote. They had prepared an American flag and a wreath to place at the Utah column of the monument in honor of their comrades who were killed. Now the committee is desperately seeking enough money to be able to take the veterans on the promised trip. So far they' ve only been able to raise half the money they need. Rumors surrounding the cancelled trip have made people skeptical about donating, and the money has been slow in accumulating. Courtesy photo Due to the health and age of the group of veterans who are still waiting for the trip, time is essential. "S ince the trip cancelled in May, Utah has buried 208 of these elderly, frail veterans," said Christofferson. Now the committee has made the decision that if they haven't raised the funds by Aug. 14, 2007, they will cancel the trip. Those interested in donating can go to a Wells Fargo bank, or visit the Hero Flight website at www. herofiight.com.
