We have reflected and remembered the rights and privileges that we take advantage of every day. We have remembered not only those who are serving our country today, but also those from the "greatest generation." As we have watched the WWII Veterans in parades and flag ceremonies these past few weeks, we can't help but notice their true patriotism. The tears in their eyes as the flag passes by, the salute while they proudly wear their American Legion uniforms, their knees wobbling as they stand for the National Anthem, are all gentle reminders that they are still proud to serve our country. We owe these men and women our very existence and way of life. It is to them the committee for "Operation Hero Flight" persists in trying to get these elderly, vibrant, heroic veterans to Washington D.C. to see their monument. We are committed to do this flight, but we need your help. The planned trip from Utah was abruptly cancelled in May due to lack of funds. Since that time, Utah has buried 208 of these elderly, frailveterans. We are making one last plea to individuals, businesses and corporations to make a donation as soon as possible. Please partner with us to give this flight wings. We all have fathers, grandfathers, husbands, brothers, neighbors or friends who served. We have raised half of the money needed, but due to the amount of time we've already dedicated to this effort, and failing health of the group of veterans who were promised this trip, it has come time to make a decision to call it off by Aug. 14 if we don't get the help needed to make it happen. Please go to any Wells Fargo and donate to Operation Hero Flight account. You can also donate on our website at www.heroflight.com. Let's say "thank you" together. L I ' i ' I | j School shopping Ready Or Not Dawn Van Nosdol School is going to start soon; I can feel it in the air. Actually I can't, but my mailbox is being bombarded with back-toschool advertisements and that is a dead giveaway. Last year I forgot that school was starting until I got a frantic phone call from my son. He had gone deer hunting with his cousin and on .the drive back his cousin asked him if he was excited for school to start because it was his first year of high school. His heart stopped; he had forgotten too. He borrowed the cell phone and frantically called me asking if I would grab some new clothes and school supplies for him. It was about 7 p.m. as I ran out the door hoping the shelves wouldn't be bare. The next morning he went to school dressed in new clothes, and he was well prepared for his classes with sharpened pencils and new class implements. I then went back to the store to return all of the extras that he decided against (whew). For somebody that likes to be prepared, I was sorely lacking. The year before, when I remembered the date that school started, I was prepared — for the entire year. It was a wonderful feeling. I am going to give you some tips that have helped me in the past to cut down on those "I forgot I have a report due tomorrow" blues. See SHOP • A3 |
