Show Sentinel Guardian of Your Community News MMHS tennis squad defeats Skyhawks The Maple Mountain girls tennis team traveled to Salem Hills Thursday, Aug. 27 for the first region match for the two teams. The Golden Eagles bested the Skyhawks 5-0 in varsity and 4—1 in JV. At the first singles Maple Mountain's Calley Bankhead took on Salem's Kelsey Tolbert. Bankhead swept the match 6-0, 6-0. At second singles MMHS' Anna Cronquist defeated Salem's DeBryn Saunders, 6-3, 6-0; and at third singles Hayley Roney bested Chloe Lawson, 7-5, 6-3. The doubles teams were more evenly balanced. At first doubles Salem's Morgan Miller and Hannah Riley played Maple Mountain's Spencer Rose and Kelsey Lewis. The Skyhawks picked up the second set, but lost the first and third, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. At second doubles MMHS' Hailey Harlan and Jamie Lundberg went down early to Salem's Sammi Magoffin and Katherine Riley, 6-3, but came back to win the second and third sets, 6 - 1 , 7-6. In JV action, Jennica Dutson of SHHS got Salem's only win, 8-6, against Maddie Asay of MMHS at first singles. Second singles saw Mckell James defeat Liz Leach 8-2, and Ashley Ellis deafeated Emily Stewart 8-1 at third singles. Maple Mountain's Lindsey McMurdie and Aubrynn Fawcett won their first doubles match 8 6 against Salem's KayDee Crook and Cierra Powell. And the MMHS second doubles team of Bryn Gomez and Kelli Slade defeated SHHS' Kayla Procell and Brooke Billat, 8-4. We had only 5 ladies compete. After two days of competitive play Gayle Valdez won the championship. Gloria Christensen won 1st gross, Sandi Nilsson won 2nd gross, Mickie Pulsipher won 1st net and Luena Francom won 2nd net. Congratulations to all of these gals. LaRue Taylor competed in the Club Champion Competition at the Alpine Country Club on Aug. 18, 25, and 26. LaRue won 3rd net at this Competition. Congratulations to her. The Central Utah Travel Golf teams will hold their Closing Social at the Hobble Creek Golf Course on Monday Aug. 31. Our ladies played well in all the Competition but did not place in the winners circle this year. The Closing Social for the Spanish Oaks Ladies will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
