This is the first year either of them has participated in college rodeo, though both are juniors and only have one year of eligibility left. Beck said they didn't even do high school rodeo. "We just kind of picked it up/' he said. In order to qualify for the national finals, the cowboys had to compete in five fall rodeos and five rodeos in the spring, and take third overall ill their region for their event. The region includes eight schools from Utah and southern Idaho. Beck placed third among headers in-the region, and Youd was in fourth place among heelers. As a team, the boys finished third, qualifying them for nationals. There they will battle for a National Collegiate Association title and nearly $250,000 in scholarships. Beck said he and Youd were "pretty stoked" about making it to nationals, where he said he thinks they "have a pretty good chance" of winning.
