Samantha Beck / Spanish Fork News SINGING WITH HEART: Thursday, March 5 a few hundred students, parents and others sat in the large auditorium and listened to the new addition to the music world: Benton Paul. After a few openers had a chance to display their talent, the main attraction brought his guitar on stage and sung solo for the audience. After a few well known songs were played, he introduced his own creations which were met with enthusiasm and applause. While the turnout wasn't as large as hoped for, the group was well pleased with the number and the amount in donations that was attained. Becca Terry, the producer of this concert, is using this as one of her bases in her running for Miss Spanish Fork. SFHS Musical Katrina Russon SFHS Secretaries, executives, bosses and window washers were just a few of the workers in this _ year's musical presented by the SFHS Fine Arts Department. Abe Burrows' and Frank Loesser's "How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying" started off with a bang. Running Feb. 26-March 2, 2009, the show got better and better each night. You could even say it ended with a bang too. On closing night, the main lead, Dominic Bills, and one of the executive men/techie Skyler Hardman had a slight accident backstage five minutes be- fore the show ended. The two boys accidentally collided while crossing from one side of the stage to the other. After the last few minutes of the show was improvised by the other cast members, Dominic and Skyler were both rushed to the hospital where they received stitches. They both are doing great. Other than that minor accident, the show went ' flawlessly. Principal -Dave McKee said it was one of the best shows he's seen performed at our school. Congrats to the Fine Arts Department, the students, Brittany Foster, Shea Bradshaw, Margaret Larson and Shalee Lewis for an outstanding production. This past week Hope Squad, a suicide prevention club at Spanish Fork High School, put on their second annual Hope Week. Hope Week is a time for students to learn about and get involved in suicide prevention. This week was full of many student-friendly activities such as an arm wrestling tournament, a door decorating contest, and a rubber ducky drawing. Students also enjoyed dressing up on yellow day and "floatie" day, where students were able to bring their favorite flotation device to school. "Our logo is a life preserver to represent holding on. Hold On, Persuade and Empower. That is what HOPE stands for," said Becca Terry, Hope Squad counsel member. "Everyone needs to know how to deal with a friend or family member that may be having thoughts about suicide.
