SFHS students perform with Youth Symphony After weeks of intense practice and countless hours rehearsing, a handful of Spanish Fork High School students showcased their hard work. On March 2, 2009, Tamara Hansen, Mallory Byrnes and Nathan Hill, performed in Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City with' the Utah Valley Youth Symphony. TJfre orchestra performed the first and fourth movements of Dvorak's 9th symphony and a piece called "Celebration." These SF students have been preparing this collection of musical pieces with the UVYSO since September. The UVYSO is a com- munity orchestra comprised of young musicians who live throughout the state of Utah. Orchestra members must audition. Tamara and Mallory both play the cello and Nathan Hill plays the trombone. Congratulations to these Spanish Fork musicians for their musical ability and achievement. SFHS Choirs Courtesy photos ORCHESTRA: The SFHS chamber orchestra qualified for state competition in the ensemble category. Dons qualify for state Kristie Stoneman SFHS This past the week, the music department at Spanish Fork High attended the Region Solo and Ensemble Festival. Many students participated, performing in a number of solos, duets or small ensembles, with the intent of scoring well enough to advance to the state competition. The groups that will be moving on to state from the orchestra department include: Kayla Brimhall, cello solo; Kimberly Harding, Erika Paice, Abby LeMmon and Kristie Stoneman, violin quartet; and the chamber orchestra group from the high school. From the band department: Katy Dallon, flute solo; Nathan Hill, trombone solo; Nelson Orton, baritone solo; Katy Dallon, Sarah Johnson, Katie Stanworth and Sharisa Nay, flute quartet and Max Livingston, snare solo; and Peter Bradford will be performing at the state competition along with the several choirs. , Allison Phillips / Spanish Fork News CELEBRATION: The SFHS choirs presented their pre-tour choir concert Wednesday, March 4. Performing groups included Encore, Men's Chorus, Concert Choir, Mosaic, Women's Chorus and Ambassador Singers. The choirs will go to California on tour in April. SFHS Bands BAND: Band soloists going to state are Nelson Orton, Peter Bradford, Katy Dallon and Max Livingston.
