Whitney Dawe Whitney Dawe is the daughter of Andy and Becky Dawe. Her platform is "A Song for Every Generation." This Salem Hills High School senior will be singing "Batti, batti, o bel Masetto." According to Whitney, "Spanish Fork has been my home for five and a half years, and I have loved every minute here. This community has really helped me grow into my self mentally, spiritually, physically and especially musically. I would love to give back to this community because the people of this community have helped me find who I am, and helped me become a better person." Chelsea Hatch Chelsea Hatch is the daughter of Frank and Shauna Hatch and a senior at Spanish Fork High School. Her platform is "Parents Involvement in Keeping Children Drug Free." She will be singing "When You Believe." Chelsea said, "I have lived in Spanish Fork for 15 years. I love being a part of this community. I would help the community grow stronger and safer for the future generations. As Miss Spanish Fork, I would give back what they have given me — my education, my home, my job, and my friends." Joy Prior Joy Prior is the daughter of Paul and Eileen Prior. This Spanish Fork High School student is promoting her platform, "The Joy in Service." She will be doing a Tahitian dance to "Pule- Lacey Anne Godfrey Lacey Anne Godfrey is the daughter of Richard (Sid) and Christine Godfrey. Her platform issue is "Self Esteem in Youth." This Spanish Fork High School senior will be per- forming a marimba solo of "Amazing Grace." According to Lacey, "From recreation to education, Spanish Fork City has helped me progress to be the woman I am today. My life has been full of learning and growing opportunities due to my amazing and dedicated teachers, leaders and other citizens of this community. Through my many talents and leadership skills, I am able to reach out to people of all cultures and lifestyles. ... These skills and characteristics are what will help me better serve my community, and be a striking Miss Spanish Fork!" Rebecca Terry Johnson Rebecca Terry Johnson is the daughter of Donna and Scott Terry, as well as Joel and Amy Johnson. Her platform issue is "Music Education." This senior at Spanish Fork High School will be performing a piano solo of "Prelude in A Minor" by Sergei Rachmaninoff. According to Rebecca, "I have lived in Spanish Fork my whole life and have grown to love this city. Fire open house Namon Bills EDITOR After a house nre caused $100,000 of damage to their home Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, Jed and Michele Morley decided to open their house up to visitors Monday, March 2, to show the results of playing with matches. The Spanish Fork Fire Department was on hand to conduct tours. They showed the fire and smoke damage, explained basic fire safety guidelines and encouraged visitors to establish a fire plan. Firefighter Eric Nilson said the Morleys didn't have a fire plan, but fortunately they were able to get to their neighbors' house and call for help. He talked about the importance of practicing exit drills in the home (EDITH). "Set up an exit drill at your house so you can have EDITH established — tonight," said Nilson. He explained that fires move fast, and it's important to get out of the house as quickly as possible.
