Show - N E W S - B4 • WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25, 2008 Spanish Fork Covering what matters most Nebo School District announces retirees Karen Beagley Karen Beagley, bus driver for transportation, is retiring from Nebo School District after 32 years. Beagley responded, "I drove in Haskellville for 7 years and 25 years in Elk Ridge. I really miss my co-workers and my children on the bus." Beagley has been the association president for 10 years. She also served on the USEA board for 5 years. Beagley enjoys spending time with family, grandchildren and friends. She and her children own Napa Auto Parts in Springville. Beagley resides in Spanish Fork and has two children and eight grandchildren. Melvin Carter Melvin Carter, adult sweeper at Payson Junior High School, is retiring from Nebo School District after six years. Carter received recognition from Springville High School for a job well done. "Do it and do it right the first time. My father made a big difference in my life," said Carter. Carter enjoys fishing and four-wheeling. He is married to Bonnie.They reside in Payson and have two children. Donna Ann Fellows Donna Ann Fellows, technician at Payson High School, is retiring from Nebo School District after 16 years of service. "If you love your job, you will never work a day in your life. Friends and family are forever," said Fellows. Fellows was awarded the Distinguished Service Award Nebo School District in 1995. She enjoys computers, reading, dancing and finance. Fellows was married to the late Ted Fellows. She resides in Salem and has five children and ten grandchildren. Fellows is also an eleven-year cancer survivor. Joan Spencer Joan Spencer, cook at Spring Lake Elementary, is retiring from Nebo School District after 31 years, of service. Spencer has been awarded the 15 year pin, 20 year pin, 25 year pin and 30 , year pin as well as the Heart of the Program Award. "I have really enjoyed my employment and owe it all to the people I have had the opportunity to work with," said Spencer. Spencer enjoys crocheting, yard work and long walks. She is married to Michael Spencer. They reside in Salem and have four children and thirteen grandchildren. Elementary, is retiring from Nebo School District after 11 years of service. Condie taught first grade for 10 years at Brockbank Elementary and second grade for one year at Riverview Elementary. "I love helping my students prepare for future years in school and beyond to recognize their great value. The wonderful people I have worked with have had a huge impact on my life," said Condie. "Their friendships have helped me through many difficult times. Their willingness to share materials and learning has made teaching almost a piece of cake. Thank you Nebo School District for giving me a chance to make a difference in more children's lives." Condie enjoys music, reading, BYU football and community softball. She resides in Springville and has eleven children and eighteen grandchildren. Lynn S. Coray Lynn S. Coray, teacher at Nebo Technology Center and Payson Jr. High is retiring from Nebo School District after 27 years of service. He has another four years outside the district. "I still have all my fingers. My students have all left my class with all the body parts they came in with. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to enjoying new places and things," said Coray. "Education is the process of discovery. I've truly enjoyed the students I've had the opportunity to work with, but more than that, I have enjoyed associating with the best people in the world. In my community and religious activities, I have recognized that teachers are worth their weight in gold." Coray enjoys the outdoors and is involved with Boy Scouts of America at the unit, district and council level. He is married to Linda and they reside in Spanish Fork. They have two children the late Jill Coray and Chris Coray. Galen L. Downing Galen L. Downing, school psychologist at Spanish Fork High School and Spanish Fork Junior is retiring from Nebo School District after 30 years of service and one year outside the district. "I've learned that it's all about the journey and in the schools where I've worked, I've had some wonderful traveling companions, fellow psychologists, teachers and especially the students, who have been my consummate teachers," said Downing. He taught Algebra I, pre-algebra and applied math for 20 years, Computer Literacy for 5 years, Utah History for one year, fourth grade for one year, third grade for one year, sixth grade for three years and fifth grade for one year. • "I tried to follow a saying from Confucius. I tried to instill in my students that you can't change where you come from, only what you can become," said Lee. Lee has been President and President-Elect of Nebo Education Association, President and President-Elect of Bonneville Uniserv, UEA Board of Directors and Nebo Education Association Treasurer. He belongs to the Nebo Education Association, Utah Education Association, National Education Association, NCTM, UCTM and UCCE. Lee stated, liI will not be leaving education entirely. I will be an educational administrator at a private treatment center near Moroni. I strive to live by the motto posted at BYU, 'Enter to learn - go forth to serve.' It has not always been easy, and many bumps later, it has been worth the time to me. I never could have made it without family and friends and my schools. Thanks for the memories." She has been involved in the Spanish Fork Community Theater and is an avid reader and learner. She loves horseback riding in the mountains and canyons and hopes to become a better photographer, writer, friend, mother and grandmother. 'Teaching is an act of faith - you keep sending out the invitations. My journey as humble learner and teacher through the years, first at Payson Middle School and now Mt. Nebo Junior High, has had its unforgettable moments with unforgettable students. Each day as I survived another incursion into the halls during class break to enter the classroom, I became more grateful to be a teacher," said Neves. "It is an enviable position to be in the midst of the exuberant, idealistic, irreverent youth of our community, and to guide them toward maturity, urging them and fortifying them onward and upward towards their bright futures. Teaching is hard work. This passageway would not have been half as fun or memorable without my earnest, visionary friends and colleagues. Thanks for the ride." Neves is on the National Council of Teachers of English, Utah Reading Association, Nebo Reading Council, National Education Association and Utah Education Association. She is married to Eldon. They reside in Spanish Fork and have seven children.
