The character trait for September was 'Respect'. When teachers saw their students exhibiting this particular trait or other positive traits, they gave them a citizenship card. At the end of the month, a student from each class was selected as a "Canyon Champ". The following students were selected as Canyon Champs, great citizens, for September. Students were taught that energy consumption is the greatest and most costly during these hours, and were asked to teach others to use electricity during off hours in order to conserve and save money. Representatives from the National Energy Foundation visited the students, presented important information on our energy resources, and played a lively game of interactive trivia. Each student was given their own informational packet with magnets and stickers, and encouraged to spread the good conservation message. Larsen RED RIBBON WEEK: Canyon PTA sponsored Red Ribbon Week for the students at Canyon Elementary. Red Ribbon Week is about pledging to be drug free. Each day there was a different theme that students could get involved in such as, "Sock it to Drugs" where kids got to wear mismatched socks; "Winners Don't do Drugs" where students wore their favorite sports themed shirts, "Don't Let Drugs Twist Your Mind" where students wore crazy hair and "Elect to be Drug Free" where students wore anything red. There was also a daily riddle connected to being drug free. Students wrote their answers to the riddle and entered them in a drawing. Three of the riddle winners are pictured left to right, Abby Worthen, Alyssa Elquist and Sofie Czarnecki.
