Show -NEWS- Spanish Fork A6 • WEDNESDAY, JULY 4, 2007 Covering what matters most FFA exec, committee finds 'Success' Jenna Anderson and Jaitee Pace SFHS FFA On Monday June 25, 2007, the Spanish Fork FFA executive committee left for leadership training in Fruitland. Success leadership training is an executive committee retreat to help students gain leadership skillsrelatedtocommunication, teamwork, conflict resolution, responsibility and cooperation. Success was a challenging but rewarding experience. When we got to the high school Monday morning, we were just kids on the Spanish Fork FFA chapter Executive Committee. We didn't know that was going to change. We arrived in Fruitland at about noon. We had lunch and set up camp and then our training began. We sat in a circle in the shade and started to do the many team building activities that were in our Success manual. Mrs. Smith got our theme this year irom the book Sand. It is about a city slicker who ends up staying at a ranch. He begins to be trained just like a new cowhand would be. Our activities were themed on the training the new cowhands go through. Our first activity was finding our "orphans." When we got to the box where our orphans were, we . couldn't wait to find out what they were. We opened the box, and there sat a carton of eggs. We had to carry the eggs around with us wherever we went. If someone broke their egg, everyone made a circle around them and had to do "spur squats" to earn the person a new orphan. The next day started with Courtesy photo SAND: Members of the FFA executive committee participate in a team-building activity as part of their leadership training. Activities for the group were inspired by the novel Sand. breakfast and then we jumped right into more activities. We were tied to one other person for the day. We went on a blind hike. Some people were blindfolded and some were not.The people without a blindfold had to lead the blindfolded over obstacles that Mrs. Smith chose. That evening we had to scavenger hunt for our dinner. We would find a clue and on the back it would tell us what item of food we earned for dinner. On the third day we got up planned our year and then we got to get rid of our "orphans." Then we cleaned up camp and headed home. Those three days we were at camp we were united and became an executive committee.
