A Tribute to the B a r d M istaken identities, sibling rivalry, murder and romance abound in ^Spanish Fork High School's evening of Shakespearean scenes and monologues presented by the Shakespeare in Performance class Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Little Theater. The cast is comprised of 25 dedicated students who auditioned for the class last May. They are preparing for the Utah Shakespearean Festival and Competition held next month in Cedar City. The students enjoy studying Shakespeare because an understanding of classical theater makes contemporary theater that much easier. Britni Gibbs, who played Juliet in last year's production of Romeo and Juliet says thai studying Shakespeare's life and works opens her mind to universal themes and characters. Alisa Green, stage manager for this year's production, loves finding the humor in Shakespeare's scenes. "People don't understand that Shakespeare was hysterical. He was actually a really funny guy," she said. The production Wednesday evening promises a taste of Shakespeare's humor and wit as well as the intensity of his tragedies. At only $3 a ticket, it will be an entertaining evening for Shakespeare enthusiasts or as an introduction to his work.
