Roderick, who ended a two-year stint as photo editor of The Thunderbird at the dose of winter quarter, took top honors in news and feature photography, adding to last year's first and second places. He is a communication major from Sandy, Utah. SUU media srudents also Eric Roderick brought home an armful of certificates for work completed during the calendar year 1992. Among the 47 schools entered at the RMCMA competition, The Thwnddiird columnists, Nicole Thomas and Cheris T uclcer won first and second place honors, respcctively, while sports editor Jay Hinton won third place in sports' writing and Roderlclc captured third place in featu« photography. The newspaper staff won 's ttond and third places for advertising campaigns and a thiid place for single ad, while gaining honorable mention for its pecial supplement, "Preview." SlJIV, in limited competition with five other colleges and junior colleges, won third place in best of television, while SUU students won a number of awards as well. Paul Southwick picked up first place honors in technical production for his commentary, PSA, and promo. Kara Bowen, Katie Briggs, David Culler, Michael Chisholm, Deanna Hymas, Cathleen Killian and Gregg Millett, won the same award for documentary and public affairs. Second places went to Briggs and Culler for performance in commentary, PSA and promo and to Bowen, Briggs, Chisholm, Killian and Kim Vadala for news technical production.
