Scuba diving class is in high demand BY AMY WEAVER Thunderbird Staff Writer &·uba diving in the local Coal Creek is not a probable hobby or even a possible one. However.for those who are interested in scuba diving, whether for a career or just for fun, SUU offers scuba diving classes each quarter. Craig Loe, adjunct professor of physical education, has taught the scuba course for seven years. Levels of this class range from the beginning scuba diver through instructor level training. Students have me opportunity o( learning all the basic skills necessary to become a scuba diver, and the option to continue their education in the underwater world, Loe said. Further education in this field includes: advanced, advanced plus, rescue training, dive master, instructor, and speciality dive, (including photography). The application process for Head Residents in Juniper Hall and Manzanita Court will begin on Friday, February 5, 1993. Come to the Group Orientation at 3:00 pm or 7:00 pm on February 5 in the Juniper Hall Lobby to obtain an application packet. Each quaner the class offers two trips: a Lake Mead boat trip, or one to Catalina lslanJ to enable students to become certified scuba divers. In order to become a certified scuba diver, students must make five dives. During the course, sn1dents are provided with the basic equipment with which they practice dives in the college pool The equipment includes a Buoyancy Control Device, goggles, mask, regulator, wet suit, and a tanlc. The classes are at a fairly high demand, and according to Loe, present enrollment is at about 96 srudents in all levels. Most of d1e classes always fill up.
