T Don Massengale Music Department Robert Campbell Math and Computer Scie nce Department D r. Do n £.Massengale is from Harrison, Arkansas, and came to SU U from the U niversity of Arkansas. He earned his bachelor's degree from A rkansas Technical University and master's and doctoral degrees at the University of Mississippi. A professor of music theor y and piano since 1970, Massengale was an executive board member of the Arkansas Music Teachers' Association. O riginally from Afton, Wyo., D r. Robert Campbell is an assistant professor of math and computer science, with extensive experience in computer programming and data analysis. He'll join SUU's newly created department of math and computer science headed by Robert Tebbs. Campbell earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Brigham Young University and his doctoral degree from Kansas State U niversity. He is t he recipient of three National Science Foundation research awards,two of them as principal investigator. Gubler is an assistant professor of education. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Utah and a doctoral degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Although originally from Santa C lara, Utah , Gubler has spent most of his career in the Nevada school system, where he was principal of three high schools and assistant superintendent of secondary edu~tion.. for the C larie County School District. He was named Distinguished Nevada Administrator earlier this year. Dr. Jerry Horgesheimer is an assistant professor of business administration . He earned bachelor's and master's degrees at Utah State U niversity in Logan and his doctoral degree from Arizona State University in Tempe. He has taught business administration, management and fi nance at ASU and Weber State University in Og<len , U tah , as well as working professionally as senior manager of a company. He has published several articles in business journals. His hometown is Lansing, 111. Marta Walz, a 1991 SUU graduate in political science, has joined the communication department faculty as an instructor a nd assistant director of forensics. She completed he r master's degree in speech communication at Ball State U niversity earlie r this year. As a member of SU U's forensic squad, Walz ea rned second place in informative speaking at the 1990 natio nal tournament. Walz will be in charge of individual events for the SU U team this year. SUU's new Director o f Bands is Dr. Gary L Reeves, who is also an associate professor of music. A native of Muscatine, Iowa earned a bachelor's degree from Augusta College, lll., a master's degree from the University of South Dakota. and a master of fine arts and doctoral degree from the University of Iowa. He has served as assistant director of bands at Oregon Sate U niversity and director of bands for Huntington College, Ala. Thomas R. Porter has joined the SUU language and literature department as a Spanish instructor. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in S panish from Brigham Young University. His othe r areas of specializatio n include Latin American literature, semiotics and computer assisted d language instruction. Originally from Syracuse (Ut.), Porter was a Spanish lecturer at the University of W),oming before coming to SUU. A native of Pueblo, Colo., Mark H arris is a new member of the SUU Lbrary faculty as a cataloger/ instructor. Harris earned his bachelor's degree at the U niversity of Texas-Permian Basin, and a master's degree in Library science at Texas Women's University. In addition to cataloging, Harris' areas of expertise include information retrieval. An assistant professor of business information management, Paula Baxter s from Mountain View, Ark. She earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Arkansas State University. Baxter taught computer anJ management information systems at Marshall U niversity, W.V., Eastern New Mexico State U niversity and Midwestern State U niversity, Tex., before coming to SUU. Her professional presentations have covered topics ranging from Computer Viruses to AIDS. Elise C. Leahy has joined the language and literature department as a French instructor. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University O f Texas· Arlington and a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin·Madison. In add ition to French language and literature, Leahy has a strong interest in theatre. She has completed doctoral work at the U niversit y of Wisconsin and is preparing he r dissertation on contemporary French theatre. Dennis Vredenburg joined the SUU faculty in winter quarter, 1992, as an assistant professor of business administration, marketing and management. He earned a bachelor's degree at Colorado State University, and master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Northern Color:ido. Vredenburg has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Eastern Montana College. In addition, he was assistant credit manager for RalstonPurina and owned his own construction business for 10 years. Roy Fitzell is an artist-in-residence for the theatre-dance department. He may already be familiar to many southe rn Utahns through his performances with the American Folk Ballet. Originally 'fro m San Diego, Calif, Fitzell has been a dancer and dance teacher for 50 years, starting as young boy. He has studied and performed virtually every type of dance from ballet to tap and flamenco. His professional credits include the San Francisco Ballet, the American Ballet Theatre and the Oakland Ballet Co. He has performed in numerous motion pictures such as Silk Stockings, Damn Yankees and Sweet Chariry, as well as scores of television s pecials and series, including four years on The Da nni Ka,e Show. His background as a dance instructor for many colleges an<l universities is eq•.ially impressive, and Fitzcll was previously a n adjunct dance instructor for SUU for two years. Dennis Vredenburg Business Department Roy Fitzell Theatre Department The Council selects editors for SUU's student publications, approves their budgets and hears grievances. The Council consists of four student members, of whom one is chair, and three faculty or staff members. There are current openings for two students. To serve on the Council, you must be a full·time student and not be a member of the staffs of The Thunderbird or Tailwind. You must not be a member of the SUUSA Senate, Executive Council, Judicial Council or Cabinet. If you would like to serve on this body, pick up an application beginning TOMORROW from Lois Bulloch in Administration 212 and return the completed application to her by 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 1992. You will be interviewed by ~he acting chair of the ,Council, the SUUSA president and the executive secretary to the Council. |
