Show THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 1999 UNIVERSITY JOURNAL ARTS PAGE 12 USF summer ends; fall begins USF and SUU cooperate to provide child care Although most of the 375-member company for the summer season has gone, there are still a few familiar faces that will be seen as the new fall season swings into motion. Four favorite actors remain to make up the fourmember fall acting company: Brian Vaughn, Michael Fitzpatrick, Jered Tanner and Gregory Ivan. "The amazing thing about our new fall season is we will be putting on two plays with a company of four actors and one director. There are far more people involved behind the scenes designing the costumes, lighting, sound and choreography than there are on stage, said Fred C. Adams, Festival founder and executive producer. For The Comp/eat Works of Wilm. Shkspr (Abridged) the actors will dress in 18th century Elizabethan costumes and '90s tennis shoes, set up their makeshift Shakespearean set ano perform spoofs covering all 37 of Shakespeare's plays and " his sonnets. Director Paul Barnes said, "The scenery .__ _ __._-=i:m.._.....;;;:..JL,.. in this hilarious play is supposed to look a little tattered, like it's been invented by the three actors. It has the sense of a company that is on the road putting up their Shakespeare set wherever they go." The actors will transform themselves into characters ranging from Juliet to King John to Hamlet right before the audience's eyes. In fact, Hamlet will be performed three different times, once in under 60 seconds and once backwards. Othello will be performed as a rap, and all the kings of Shakespeare will compete in a football game. In the musical comedy Forever Plaid, the actors form the singing group Forever Plaid. After a freak bus The Utah Shakespearean Festival and Southern Utah University have joined in a cooperative effort to provide child care for festival patrons and day care for SUU faculty an,d students. Although the festival owns the child care building on 200 West, they have forged a deal with the university allowing SUU to use it. In accident kills the four singers, they are allowed to return to earth to give the show they have always dreamed about. Barnes, who has directed the show before, is looking forward to directing it again as part of this first fall season at the Festival. The costumes and set will be straight out of the '50s, with a band in powder blue jackets, a white baby grand piano and white dinner jackets for the singers. Brian William Baker, the music director for the play, said the "the sound is big and romantic." Along with big musical numbers, there will be dance numbers choreographed by Michael Barnard who has worked extensively with productions at Disneyland and has recently taken on the position as producing artistic director for the Phoenix Theatre. 1 • In addition to the two plays, there will be a Feaste of Fools and a Talk Back session each day of the Festival.
