Show SUU growth tops • • • state 1nst1tut1ons 10.51 percent emollment jump in '93-94 leads Utah colleges and universities by wide margin Southern Utah University has become Utah's fastest growing institution of higher learning, posting a 10.51 percent enrollment increase in the 1993-94 academic year. Other institutions with substantial enrollment growth were Salt Lake Community College, 7.45 percent; Utah Valley State College, 7.37 percent; College of Eastern Utah, 7.28 percent; Dixie College, 6.05 percent; and Utah State University, 4.73 percent, according to data released June 15 by the State Board of Regents. Enrollment decreases were posted by the University of Utah, Weber State University, and Snow College. SUV a lso led the system in · enrollment increases for spring quarter 1994 when compared to spring quarter 1993 with a nearly 22 percent increase in unduplicated head count and a 15 percent increase in full -time equivalent students. College of Eastern Utah, 4.41 percent; Weber State University, 2.98 percent, and Dixie College, 0.50 percent. SUU's spring quarter full-time equivalent student increase of 15 percent was nearly double that of any other Utah public college or university. College of Eastern Utah registered a 7.61 percent increase, and Salt Lake Community College posted a 7.28 percent increase. Utah State University had a 4.15 percent increase, and Dixie College experienced a 2.03 percent increase. All the other colleges and universities saw a decrease. Utah ValJey State College is on a semester system, and directly comparable data is not available for spring enrollments. Southern Utah University's growth occurred even as the university was imposing n ew admission standards which eliminated one out of every 10 applicants. "Without the new admission standards, SUU's enrollment growth would have been off the charts," D. Mark Barton, SUV assistant vice president for student services, said.
