SUSC split a doubleheader on Wednesday for the first loss of the season to the Utes. SUSC scored and wins in Tuesdays doubleheader then split Wednesdays game winning the first and losing the second 6-- 1 6-- 6-- 1 4 4-- 1 Doug Alldredge hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third in Wednesdays opener to give the all the lead they needed for the win. Mike Ryser got SUSC on the scoreboard in the first game after being hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first, he advanced to second on an error and scored on a single by J.R. Richardson. Utah tied the game in the top of the third, but Alldredges round-trippe- r ahead to put the stay. Ryser put some icing on the cake with a two run shot in the fourth. Hunt rodeo winner Golfers end in 8th Softballers win two Cowgirl Darla Hunt, a goat tying expert, led the SUSC womens rodeo team to first place honors at regional competation at the College of Southern Idaho. honors with a first in goat tying Hunt won and second in breakaway roping. Betty Jo Christensen, finished third in goat tying, and Candy Gedge captured third in barrel racing, Terry Boren placed fifth in barrels. The rodeo was Gedges first time out for SUSC. This is the third consecutive year that the SUSC womens team has won the team trophy at the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Twin Falls contest, according to SUSC Rodeo Club Adviser Chris Gale. SUSC more than doubled the score of second place Brigham Young University. Gale said the women's win should put them at the top of regional rankings in the NIRA Rocky Mountain region. The women have an excellent chance of going to the nationals as a team. That would be a first for SUSC, Gale said. SUSC was represented at the nationals last year by Christensen in breakaway roping and Gary Bulloch in bareback riding. For the mens team Jerry Jorgenson and Troy Warr placed in the winnings. Jorgenson finished second in bull riding and tied for fourth in bareback riding. Warr also tied for fourth in bareback riding. SUSC travels to Boise State University April 18 and 19 then to BYU the following week for NIRA will host the competition. On May 2 and 3 the regional NIRA contest during annual Wild West Week activities. Besides SUSC there are 10 colleges and universities in the Rocky Mountain NIRA: Boise State, Idaho State, CSI, Utah State University, Weber State College, Snow and Salt Lake, College, BYU, Utah Trade Tech-Prov- o and Ricks College. The golf team shot in the 80s Saturday to finsh 90 shots off the pace in the Bronco Invitational Tourney in Boise over the weekend. The tourney, hosted by Boise State University, was a nine team meet. The field included several NCAA Division I schools including winner University of Washington. Washington shot 861 as a team in the 54 hole tourney, SUSC shot 951 and finished eighth. Bill Mees lead the with 231 after rounds of Brett Wilkinson shot to finish with 235, Brent Sampson shot 240 with rounds of Brandon Long shot all three rounds in for 245. the 80s with Coach Tom Kingsford said the final round was played in the rain and that didnt help the golfers 1, The SUSC softball team continued its hot hitting over the weekend by scattering 46 hits, seven for extra bases, in four games against Adams State. The could only come away with a split despite the hot bats. SUSC downed Adams State 12-- and Friday before (in 12 innnings) Saturday. The falling 3 and are now 0 on the season. The Ladies glory at the plate was scattered among teammates with Staci Sargeant getting three hits in five at bats, Meridee Syme went Jill Jacobson hit Shellie Spencer added and Nan Spiers came up with three runs batted in in the 12-- 6 win. Then in game two Syme went 3 with two doubles. Saturday the rapped out 27 hits in two games but couldnt push the runs across the plate as they fell 6 2-- 4 5 15-1- 3-- 2-- 2-- 3 3-- Thinclads improve The Lady softball team won two and lost two over the weekend. and Jill Shellie Spencer hit 6 Jacobsen hit for the weekend. Despite SUSCs last place finish at the Brigham Young University Invitational Track Meet Coach Ben Davidson is pleased with the progress of the team. The SUSC. men finished last among 10 teams and the women took last of eight, but Davidson said the team is improving with each meet. Jolene Fisher took second in the 5000 meter with 18:00.45 just five seconds short of the NAIA qualifying time. Fisher was the only women to finish in the scoring. The womens team is without the services of Jill Reynolds because of a back injury. Tim Pilling was the only man to score, he placed fifth in the 5000 meter at 15:08.05. Davidson said the wind blew hard most of the meet and he felt it had an affect on how his team did. in game two. Spencer in game one and continued her hot hand in game three by going Jana Crawford hit 4 and Mary Lynn Thorton added two hits in four tries, but SUSC couldnt pull out the win. In the final game Jacobson got four hits in six Thorton had 5 and Sonja trips, Spencer went with 2 runs batted in. For the weekend Reese went and Jacobson hit Jacobson was Spencer hit 6 also the pitcher of record for all four games winning two and losing two. SUSC returns home Friday and Saturday against Fort Lewis. According to Peterson Fort Lewis might be the team to beat for the conference title.
